They cannot spin it away.

Rhetorical use of the term "treason" will become the order of the day for pundits.

3. It's nearly impossible to prove that anyone new she was undercover
It is relatively easy to prove that people tried to cover up their mistake.

4. For the leak, not for the cover up
I agree with Walt.

I'm not so sure they are going to be able to spin it away if it is just for the cover up either.

All the spin in the world won't do them any good if a jury convicts.

And I don't think pardons will go over very well either even if it never gets to a jury.

7. Many repugs think only perjury will be the reason for indictments
and not the outing of an undercover agent. They don't believe that the 'leak' is an important issue only the lies and cover-up.

The outing of an undercover agent (who knew of the false info about WMDs) is what should be mentioned again and again.

8. If charges are filed over the crime of the leak as opposed to the crime
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 10:12 PM by Walt Starr
of the coverup.

In other words, if people are charged for revealing the identity of a covert agent , with espionage, or with conspiracy to reveal the identity of a covert agent, it's over. The Adminsitration is done. There is no spinning their way out of it, major crimes were committed and they have been indicted for the major crimes.

The laws covering Espionage and outting a covert agent were passed to basically charge traitors who do not rise to the level of the constitutional definition of treason. Treason has a high bar in the United States because Crazy King George would basically charge and convict anybody who looked at him crosseyed with treason.

So basically, if they are charged with any crime related to the actual outting as opposed to the coverup of the outting, they are dirty no good, lowdown traitors and every last leftwing American PAtriot can feel good saying so.

13. Thanks for that explanation. I sure hope it's for the crime and not
the cover-up then.

6. If the story I read tonight is true,
that agents were recently near her home asking neighbors if they had been aware of her status prior to the leak, then one would assume they are still pursuing the leak itself.
