These people really are stupid
This from an article in the NYT tonight regarding Republican unease over Miers:

<snip>

Senator John Thune, Republican of South Dakota, called Republican sentiment toward Ms. Miers's nomination "a question mark."

"There is an awful lot of Republican senators who are saying we are going to wait and see," he said. (emphasis mine)

Senator Norm Coleman, a Minnesota Republican in the political middle of his party, said he needed "to get a better feel for her intellectual capacity and judicial philosophy, core competence issues."

Read that second sentence again. A) There is a lot of Senators? B) WTF does that second part mean? As for Norm Coleman there, I think they need to get a better feel on the core competence of their colleagues in the Senate, or at least their ability to walk, chew gum, and give interviews at the same time.

1. What do you expect? Most of them are businessmen, not statesmen.

Glad to see it's not limited to just Indiana, where the primary qualifications to make laws affecting your neighbours and the people you wish would move to another state are that you own the biggest grocery store, car dealership, or farm in the township...

And your qualification to be a US congressman is that you were attached to the JAG in Desert Storm.

Used to be, our elected officials were schooled in Law, or had been brought up on a diet of civic duty an compassion.

Now they're the insufferable snob or bully who everyone hated in high school who's daddy owned the Ford dealership and didn't posses any smarts besides having a knack for not drinking and fucking away what their daddy left them before they get their stupid asses elected to congress.

For "People's Exhibit 'A'" I give you John Hostettler. I'm not saying his daddy owned a dealership, but he IS as stupid as they come.
