It was 20 years ago today
I started thinking about Fitzmas again, and how if indictments are announced today, Fitzmas Day will be October 26, 2005.

That date sure seemed familiar, and then I remembered why: Marty McFly traveled back in time in Dr. Emmett Brown's DeLorean on October 26, 1985.

What else happened 20 years ago today?

As in Back To The Future, director Robert Zemeckis used the date again in Death Becomes Her (Helen drank the immortality potion on October 26, 1985).

In real life, on October 26, 1985 umpire Don Deckinger made a poor call in 6th game of the World Series, starting a string of events that cost the Cardinals the series.

As for other October 26 events from years ending in the number 5...

October 26, 1995: Mossad agents assassinated Islamic Jihad leader Fathi Shikaki in his hotel in Malta.

October 26, 1975: Anwar Sadat visited the United States, the first Egyptian president to do so in an official capacity.

October 26, 1965: 16-year-old Sylvia Likens died in Indiana after weeks of torture at the hands of over a dozen co-residents and neighbors ranging in age from 11 to 37.

October 26, 1955: The first edition of the "Village Voice" was published in New York City.

October 26, 1945: Nazi chemist Robert Ley committed suicide in the Nuremberg jail after being indicted on the following four counts: conspiracy to commit crimes against peace; planning, initiating and waging wars of aggression; war crimes; and crimes against humanity.

Ironic, that last one, isn't it?

By the way, can anyone name the famous Democrat who was born on October 26?

10. Oh Barad That Song That Song I'm Crying Now
My baby loved that song and I would play it over and over for him. I was a very young mother and my then husband was an F-14 pilot on a West Pac cruise on the Kitty Hawk. He never saw Ben until Ben was 7 months old. I used to rock Ben and cry it was a hard time.

For so long I have not thought of that song but now as my son lies in a hospital bed blown to shit by an IED in Ramadi I am remembering that song and crying my heart out.

12. Sing,
sing a song, sing out loud, sing out strong. Sing of good things, not bad; sing of happy, not sad.

Lately, when a sad song that makes me want to cry gets into my head, I switch it to the Carpenters' "Sing" and that seems to work. Sappy, yes, but maybe that's why it works.

15. Oh Binka...
I fear you may have to prepare yourself to many "then/now" punches from your life before. I hope your Ben is recovering on schedule. Lots of love and prayers....

1881 - The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral takes place at Tombstone, Arizona. (The issues leading up to the gunfight remain complex: the two sides were in opposition due to politics, business concerns, and other ideological factors. The Earps were viewed by their enemies as badge-toting pimps who ruthlessly enforced the business interests of the town; the Clantons and their cowboy crowd were viewed by their enemies as cattle rustlers, thieves, and murderers. - Wikipedia)
