looks like chaos in Miami and Broward county - people screaming for ice and looking very angry. Oh FEMA, oh Jebbie - so competent. Looks like the ice trucks ain't got gas. Cell phones down, no power for weeks.
Ah well Jebbie you were so ahead of the game; you were going to show NOLA.
Just saw this on CNN.

And they were acting so smug. jeb was saying he is so good, he can handle it. FEMA was saying jeb is so prepared they won't have the problems working in his state that they had in others. bush was saying jeb would let military help so there'd be no problem. Everything was prepared.
What happened? Really? I know it was stronger then expected when it reached east side, but what did they mean by being prepared then?
I worry about the sick or elderly there...if people are waiting in lines so long for ice/water...are there people doing outreach to those who can't get there? The elderly who are sick (or injured) in that heat with no water will really suffer.

when you have 6 million people without electric, things are not going well no matter how much you try to pretend they are.

4. I know that Miami and Broward got smacked worse than us in Loxahatchee. |
|
And we really got pounded. We went without power for 37 hours. The wife, son and I drove into Royal Palm yesterday (tuesday) and it was amazing how many broken telephone/power poles were broken in half. And we did not see one single FPL truck out doing repairs. And yet we had power back last night around 8:40. We heard from a reliable source that we have a FPL big wig that lives out here in Loxahatchee on the same power grid as us. So that may have helped us out. Someone told us that the bulk of manpower to help for restoring power went down to Dade and Broward. I wish them well. And I am sure glad we have power back. But I can tell you from driving around the area. It will be a big expensive mess to clean up that is for sure. Peace Wildman Al Gore is My President

5. I'm not going to defend Jeb Bush |

because I think he is a petulant weenie.
That said, I will make this point. There are huge billboard signs in my FL town that keep a running total of how many days until hurricane season, and how many days LEFT in hurricane season. Grocery store bags print lists of things you should have in your hurricane prep kit. It is hammered into us on the news and radio constantly. People knew this storm was coming for close to a week. I would never leave my home for a shelter without enough food and water for us for at least five days.
Yes, I know there are poor folks who are handicapped and can't carry it, too old, sick, etc. I understand that. And they should be given top priority in having their basic needs met. My point is that there has to be some self-sufficiency element in this situation with able-bodied folks. Depending on FEMA to save us is just plain dumb (given their track record). When it comes to food and water, you have to take care of yourself, and bring enough to help somebody else if you can.
Granny rant over. I really am a nice old gal...muttering into my coffee.
