Imagine that. The FBI is abusing the Patriot Act.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/23/AR2005102301352.html

The FBI has conducted clandestine surveillance on some U.S. residents for as long as 18 months at a time without proper paperwork or oversight, according to previously classified documents to be released today.

Records turned over as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit also indicate that the FBI has investigated hundreds of potential violations related to its use of secret surveillance operations, which have been stepped up dramatically since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks but are largely hidden from public view.

In one case, FBI agents kept an unidentified target under surveillance for at least five years -- including more than 15 months without notifying Justice Department lawyers after the subject had moved from New York to Detroit. An FBI investigation concluded that the delay was a violation of Justice guidelines and prevented the department "from exercising its responsibility for oversight and approval of an ongoing foreign counterintelligence investigation of a U.S. person."

In other cases, agents obtained e-mails after a warrant expired, seized bank records without proper authority and conducted an improper "unconsented physical search," according to the documents.

Gee. No one saw this one coming. :eyes:

I thought that the government would have been honest and ethical when it came to using the Patriot Act. :sarcasm:

How are you doing, merh? How's that injured pup?

6. As someone that has had a FBI file since the early 90's
I know that they don't care about ethics and laws. I wonder if they have since updated their file to include the SBA & FEMA information on me? Do you think? :sarcasm:

My pup is healing, the vet wants him to strengthen the left hip that was surgically repaired before he fixes the right hip. I left him home today, trying to see if that is going to work. The look in his eyes made me feel guilty, but I can't get things accomplished if I have to tote him around everywhere. They frown on dogs in the grocery store. ;-)

Thanks for asking!

7. Nooo, I'm sure they would never have put your FEMA info
into your FBI file. That would be going too far. :sarcasm:

I always give my dogs a dentastix when I leave so I don't have to see the sad look they give me. :D

3. Just one more reason (besides the unconstitutionality of it) to repeal the
unPATRIOTic Act. :grr:

apparently.

Note: There is such a thing as an honest republican, and you hear them speaking out. It's the 'party faithful' that I find unethical.

8. I agree. I've known plenty of honest republicans.
But the honest Repubs ought to hold their dishonest counterparts accountable for their lies. Otherwise they are just as guilty.
