The Uglier American
I travel frequently. Recently I have observed that the people of nations typically friendly to American culture are becoming increasingly hostile to the U.S. as a nation. Specifically, Australia, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and Poland are representative.

Its not a single issue, but an increasing mistrust of America.

Are my obervations accurate?

1. Well, hell, I have an increasing mistrust of America
and I haven't been overseas in 25 years.

I can only imagine what it looks like from that side.

2. From what I've read on international web forums
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 09:14 AM by htuttle
The first time Bush was elected, it was seen as sort of an anomaly (especially considering the Supreme Court's actions). But when we allowed him to take office for a second term, a lot of people overseas lost faith in Americans.

It's like the first time, it was an accident (and we didn't know what we were in for). But the second time was unforgivable.

And for those who say it 'wasn't our fault' because the last election was stolen, I'd suggest looking at what happened in the Ukraine recently for what we 'should' have done...But we didn't.

3. Great book, by the way...
I think we are now seeing the international embodiment of that novel. Shame to say.

4. Quite frankly, I find American culture to be repulsive.
It's so materialistic and selfish that I am disgusted by what I see virtually every day.
