Kilgore says 'liberal' press is helping Kaine.
<snip>
BY JEFF E. SCHAPIRO
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Oct 26, 2005

Jerry W. Kilgore, the Republican nominee for governor, said yesterday that the "liberal press is defending a liberal soulmate" -- Democrat Timothy M. Kaine -- from criticism of his opposition to the death penalty.

Kaine is running a new television advertisement citing editorial criticism of Kilgore's disputed capital punishment commercials, including one suggesting Kaine would resist executing Adolf Hitler.

Kilgore, following an appearance before the fall meeting here of the Virginia Municipal League, said the newspaper editorial pages defending Kaine include those that oppose the death penalty.

"I predicted that from day one, when he started complaining about the ads," said Kilgore, who claims Kaine's long-standing opposition to capital punishment means Virginians can't rely on him to carry out executions.

7. Ah, The Rich, White Times - Detached -- what a fishwrap that paper is!
When I find the occasional free copy at the top of my driveway, I always place a rear wheel solidly on that sucker, and let 'er rip. Picking up the tattered remains of the Times Dispatch is more than worth it!

It's a good way to start the day. Then, go to the Channel 12 website to see how many days it's been since they updated the site (check out the five-day-old news!).

They never update that site. And, God knows, I don't want to have to watch it.

Having children in the school system here, I do have access to the local news for school closings, etc., It is torture, I tells ya.

9. That must be all he's got left to throw at Kaine
"He's a liberal" That's the "incase of emergency, break glass" of republican politics when nothing else is working and you can't win on the issues. Of course that isn't to say it won't work. It actually has a pretty good chance of working.

albeit slightly.

*Fingers crossed*

The ad of Kilgore's I liked best was the one where he said "I support teachers, I married one". Never mind that the VEA has backed Kaine.

Freeper asshole. I can't stand the smarmy little shit.

The great thing about this is the guy that sent this to me is a
freeper through and through. Thinks that Bush is wonderful. Funny, he doesn't talk to me much about politics anymore....wonder why :evilgrin:

If I am getting e-mail like this from him, then I think (HOPE!!) Kilgore is sunk!

anyways...here is the link to an article he sent me about Kilgore

http://www.leesburg2day.com/current.cfm?catid=9&newsid=11241

Oct 21, 2005 -- In 18 years of publishing, this newspaper has never
endorsed a political candidate. Nor are we about to start now.

<snip>

Mr. Kilgore has proven himself willing to ignore the public service standards of the profession that brought him to the only elective office he’s ever held, while manipulating the grief of crime victims as a weapon in the pursuit of public office. Virginia does not stand for the things that Mr. Kilgore finds politically convenient, and it should not stand for such a person holding the highest office in the Commonwealth.

<snip>

What we have seen in the final two weeks of the campaign is the emergence of a willingness on the part of Mr. Kilgore’s campaign to do and say anything, no matter how reprehensible or indefensible, in order to simply get elected. That very willingness is what defines people who ought to be kept out of public office, because it says far too much about where their standards are likely to lie if they are elected.

28. BOO HOO.. read this.. Im in VA and spoke to people that met him..
they said Kilgore was doorknocking in their community and this person votes republican.. and told me he WOULDA voted for Kilgore, because of the R.... but NOW he is thinking of voting Kaine :D I of course helped direct him Kaine info, and suggested he just call the office and talk to someone. I know from calling both offices, that the nice people are at Kaine's camp.

Repugs are scrapping the bottom of the used car salesman barrel... look at some of the candidates they have across the country!

36. Kilgore insists he's not snubbing bush by not appearing with him
Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry W. Kilgore has decided not to attend President Bush's appearance in Norfolk on Friday, saying it is not a campaign-related event and that he has other plans 11 days before the election.

snip:
"I'm not ignoring the president," Kilgore said. "I just understand their policies on official business. He's been here for me. The first lady has been here for me. The chief of staff has been here."

The decision highlights some concerns among Virginia Republicans, who have watched nervously in recent weeks as Bush's popularity has waned and as scandals involving presidential aides and congressional leaders have dominated news coverage. Although it is unclear how the national political environment affects voters choosing who should lead their state, even small shifts are important in races that are as close as the Virginia contest.

Kilgore and the White House said there was nothing unusual about Kilgore not attending a policy address from the president, but some Democrats and independent analysts thought it significant that Bush would visit in the final weeks of the campaign and not stump for the party's standard-bearer.

All these big-name figures coming to the state, but President Bush is coming this close to the election and not campaigning for Kilgore?" asked Mark J. Rozell, a public policy professor at George Mason University who is closely following the governor's race. "I think that's very telling.
