Anyone Can Talk the Talk; Dr. Paul Farmer Walks the Walk
Dr. Paul Farmer (who turns 46 today) is a physician to the poorest of the poor and an incredibly effective champion of a fundamentally better world. He's the kind of progressive I wish I were.

He's been all over NPR and elsewhere in the media for the last couple years -- don't know how I'd missed him until now. If you're in the same boat, please have a look at this. Farmer's living the kind of life I'd think most of us would like to reflect on and draw inspiration from.

I find his attitude toward people like me to be the kind of cold slap in the face I need -- and regularly. I suspect he'd advise me to turn off the damn computer every once in a while and do something -- because right now people are dying, not blogging, and it's partly my fault.

4. Yes! Read the Book!
But sadly, let's face it, the vast majority of people won't.

At the very least, though, please have a look at this -- it's free, and it'll only take you 30 seconds.

2. More
He could be a rich man. Instead he has devoted his life to helping the poor.

I'd say more but I don't have the time.

Again, read Mountains Beyond Mountains.

3. Have you heard a book about him- Mountains Beyond Mountains

The author,Tracy Kidder, does a great job. One of the most interesting parts of the book to me was the part where they talk about the AID/HIV detention centers. The Cuban run one is humane and the US run one is horrible - what is the name of horrible US run one you may ask, why it is none other then our beloved Gitmo.
