How will we know when the "mission" is over in Iraq?
When no more Americans are being killed? When no more Iraqis are killing each other? When George W Bush can walk down the streets of Baghdad? Really, when will we know the mission has been completed? What criteria do they need. Saddam is captured. The people have voted. Why not just say the mission has been accomplished now and get the hell out?

1. When AWOL is impeached ...
we will begin to see the end. I have a hard time believeing anyone in their right mind would continue along this "Stay the course despite the fact that it isn't working" attitude.

Few will speak out about this until this adminstration is de-fanged.

Cheers

3. The big problem is they never defined the "mission".
do you mean mission of the year, month, week or day.

4. There it is
The initial mission, removing Saddam from power and verifying that there are no nuclear missles, has been accomplished. As for what the next step is, it's unclear except that we can't embolden our enemies by leaving.

6. there is no "mission" in Iraq . . .
instead, there is a permanent occupation . . . in order to control Iraqi oil and to establish a permanent base of operations in the region . . . no mission, no end . . .

7. When a majority of this country comes to it senses on election day
If they keep electing Repugs to congress, it won't be over for a long, long time. If Democrats don't stand up to end the madness, it won't be over for a long, long time.

The mission is to control the vital center region of the middle east. That's the PNAC/Repug mission. That is open ended. Until we elect people who reject that, this mess continues.

9. When that helicopter lifts off from the embassy roof.
And, when the historical revisionists start telling us that the defeat was due to the "leftwing traitors" who wouldn't let the inept military kill more people.
