I turn 50 next Friday
and the last 5 birthdays have been the lousiest of my life.

Is it true that life begins at 50?

If so, I'm going to be greedy. Mega greedy.

I want the monsta of all gifts.

Indictments, wrapped in a big ole bow. Plastered with pics of those criminals looking like the stupid fucks that they are.

I find that life becomes more interesting, the older you get. But I sincerely hope that you get your birthday wish for that gift!

And I don't think you're being greedy. I think those sound like the puuuurfect gifts for a Fab Fifty Catwoman!

20. You're right about that.
In 1980, our birthday -- I have the same one as you -- fell on election day. Some friends threw a combination birthday party/election returns party for me. We were all Carter supporters. As it became clear that Carter was going down the tubes and when he conceded at around 9:00 that put a real damper on the party for awhile. Then we all decided to drink our sorrows away and it turned into a raucous night, in the end.

33. A friend of mine sent this link to me on my birthday...
and it's pretty interesting. It even tells you how many seconds you've been alive as of your birthday, along with some other cool things. as I read mine it reminded me of the stupid elective war in Iraq. Over 200 billion dollars spent so far and headed toward 300 billion. Most people, myself included, hear the numbers tossed around every day in Washington and never really stop to think about what a billion dollars really amounts to. For example, I'm 55 years old and I have lived 1,736,858,429 seconds. Now look at your watch and see how long it takes a second to tick away. Just about 1 3/4 billion seconds = 55 years....Iraq 300 billion of your dollars, your children's and your children's children's dollars spent on a war that never should have taken place to begin with.

There are of course, several other very interesting items there, that you can find out about yourself. It doesn't have to be your birthday to check out the goodies.

WOW they're just telling everyone in the country about Fitzmas, on Reagan Jr's spot on MSNBC!

This year, for my 51st, I'm getting my first tattoo. It will be to celebrate the 1st year of the second half of my life.

I didn't think I'd ever find something I wanted to live with for the rest of my life. But I found it, love it and am getting the tat! I'm getting a Sankofa on my left back/shoulder area, over my heart.

Look that one up my dears<G> It's a good one.

HI POPS.

I have NEVER been called POPS by anyone, ever. Yuck.

16. Life begins at ....
Hey CatWoman:

I have the same birthday as you, except I'm one year older. Fifty was good. It sure beats the alternatives.

Not sure I'd say that life begins at 50. The first 50, at least what I remember of them, have been a blast. I especially enjoyed my wild and "wasted" youth. Responsible adulthood is a good thing too -- though it took me awhile to recognize that. I wouldn't say it's the beginning of life, though.

24. Happened to me last month
A real trauma. Overnight, my hair turned white, teeth fell out and I need a walker to get around (but it has some really cool racing stripes)

...just kidding.

I worried about hitting 25 because according to the script I should have been locked into a lifetime career, married, bought a house, a dog and a station wagon. Thirty rolled around and I was a world traveller, hoping to settle elswhere legally. Forty came and went painlessly. And for the big 5-0, I played Birthday by the Beatles and Hawaii 5-0 by the Ventures. Don't swaet it. You've got 70 more to go.

25. It really does get better and better.
Okay, so there are somethings that don't, such as young men (or young women for you older men out there) don't look at you with lust any more. But think about the senior citizen discounts!

I'm 57, and about ten or so years ago my husband and I noticed that all of a sudden we looked like mom and dad to all the young wait staff at restaurants, and it seemed that they treated us just a little nicer as a result. One memorable time it was clear from way the 17 year old waitress treated us that we looked like grandma and grandpa to her! We were mildly offended, but mostly found it hilarious. And tipped her generously.

I will be 52 in December and I can tell you that for a woman 50 can be very empowering. I am not sure why but for some reason I gave up all the crap at 50. Take me or leave me I could care less. I have found that this new attitude (I have no reason for why it seemed to happen at 50) has given me more opportunities and more friendship and more fun. Enjoy being 50, it really is wonderful from here.

I wish you a happy 50th CatWoman. I just turned 50 last January, and I feel great.

"All I want for MY B-Day is my country back..."

When I was in the first grade I had to stand up in front of the whole school, while sporting a pink bunny rabbit costume and sing "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth". I haven't been the same since. So here I am, 45 years later, humming the same song with different lyrics. Maybe this is therapy.

Old age creeps up on you soon enough. I was able to do a lot of traveling through the national parks in my fifties with my late husband, so I sort of consider that the best decade of my life. We did work as seasonal workers wherever we were visiting in exchange for living arrangements and a small salary.

Happy birthday!

always said that her 50s were the best times of her life. PBS inspirational speaker Barbara Sher also says you can't really be expected to do much of what you want with your life before 40, and that by 50 you can expect to start really living your life as YOU envision it. Here's hoping that they both are right!

Happy big 5-0, and Merry Fitzmas!! :bounce:  :toast:

65. 46 on Sunday, Catster,
Ya know you've only been an adult for like 32 years, toots.

Remember that!

Advice--if all of last year stunk, BURN THE 2005 CALENDAR page by page on NY's eve. I did it a few years ago and it was cathartic.

67. Just remember this: It's far better to be OVER the hill than UNDER it!
Hope that helps.

70. Cat Honey, the fifties are the best. I retired at 52. Now I have my life
again all to my own. I hope you get the biggest gift ever, with cats on top. Happy Birthday, o soul of DU.

71. My mom was fifty this past August--
she's loving it up. Considering half her family never even made it to forty, she's damn happy.

77. Happy b'day, and yes, life begins at 50 and gets really good...
Ms usnret88 and I are both past 60, we are both retired, we both have started riding recumbent bicycles, I have a motorcycle, and we traded in our 2002 SUV today (took a beating, but it's gone.)

Enjoy yourself - it can be fun, except it's harder to pick things off the floor when you drop them.

80. I just beat you over that line
its odd---50? that's like my parents' friends ages isn't it? Isn't it???????

If God indicts Bush* with a big fat juicy charge and he either can't weasel out or blows up live on the air in a really mental way...I'll forgive even turning 50. It will be a slightly belated but welcome gift. I hope you get it as well.

still, just *being* 50 is strange. really strange.
