5. Hackett: This Administration cannot fight the war on terror "smartly" |
|
Hackett insists that the Iraq policy must be changed, while Taylor prefers to "stay the course" and "complete the mission."
Taylor led a platoon to rescue Army Pvt Jessica Lynch.
Hackett is saying that this administration disregarded the wise counsel of its senior officers and lead generals, demonstrating their hubris, and putting all Americans in peril.
Taylor responds that "pundits in Washington have a lot of opinions about how to fight this war, but we must stay the course or else Iraq will become a launching pad for Al Qaeda."
Hmmm.

9. Hackett responds: Stay the course? What is the course? |
|
Complete the mission? What is the mission?
"I like the idea of fighting terrorism, but that fight is in Afghanistan. We created a terrorist haven in Iraq as the result of political hubris. Make no mistake: Iraq is worse off today than when we arrived two and a half years ago."

He reported from the pentagon that the US will be in Iraq PERMANENTLY! (like we didn't know!) Earlier this morning I heard it and what a shocker to hear that from my TV!

16. Wasn't the rescue of Jessica Lynch |

a staged event? I thought Jessica Lynch stated that she wasn't in danger in the hospital and she was a bit embarassed by the stories.

Jerome Armstrong went apeshit a couple of days ago in Paul Hackett's diary and now there's a recommended diary about David Sirota and his comments about Hackett. It's not good, not good at all.

25. Fedayeen can be read as |
|
"commandos", which is not necessarily an unflattering term.
The root is (apparently) from "fida": "one who sacrifices himself" (as opposed to "one who serves himself").
But perhaps the phrase "the Hackett Faithful" (as opposed to "faithless") is rather more descriptive.
Semper Fi, Major. Semper Fi.

27. "Fedayeen" can also be interpreted as those Sadaam loyalists... |
|
... who fought against US and Coalition forces after our invasion of Iraq.
I imagine Kos' poor choice of words is something that Maj. Hackett, not to mention his supporters, might take issue with.
It's unfortunate that Kos chooses to belittle and insult Democratic activists who are supporting Paul Hackett over Kos' annointed candidate, Sherrod Brown.

29. Fedayeen can also be read |
|
in less flattering ways... truly.
And if it was intended to be insulting or dismissive, then this would be rather unfortunate.
But what is truly unfortunate is that I see (at this time) few outsider (Dem) candidates running for federal office.
From the same-old, we can realistically only expect the same-old (that is, in practice -- we can probably expect their language to be somewhat more flexible and adaptable).

And I can't see it as other than a dig at Hackett supporters.
Armando, Kos, and Jerome Armstrong are all in a snit. People have called out Jerome Armstrong over being paid by Brown and Kos gets some flack because he and Jerome have had so many dealings together. Armando is the dKos pit bull who has been most vocal. He and Pounder have gone the rounds. It's been pretty ugly.

18. Monica tried the meme of "fighting for the Iraqi's democracy." |
|
Paul responded by saying that there is no question that Iraq is worse off than they were when we went in there.
Monica had no response for that.
I love that Paul tells the truth. He is a true leader. Sherrod Brown does not seem to show the same leadership skills.

20. Also, I haven't seen Sherrod Brown on national TV much. |
|
Sure, it's early, but there's something about hunky Iraq veterans running as Dems for Senate that TV bookers find irresistible.
The more national attention Hackett can garner, the more buzz and money he'll raise. I don't think Brown can bring that to the table... but, we'll see.

And people pay attention to what he says. "What is the course?" It's true...what is the course? And what is the mission?
Everybody is crying for Democratic leadership. This guy has it in spades. Democrats in every state and at every level of government should pay attention to that.
