O'Lielly: Giving money to MoveOn is like donating to Nazi Party.
On the October 21 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly suggested that someone donating money to MoveOn.org might as well "give to the Nazi party." O'Reilly's comments came in response to a request from former House Speaker Tom DeLay's (R-TX) lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, that a new judge be named to oversee the case, in which DeLay and two co-defendants face charges of money laundering and conspiracy, because Travis County, Texas, Criminal District Court Judge Bob Perkins has donated money to MoveOn. Commenting on the issue of the judge, O'Reilly also said, "Why not let Fidel Castro preside over the proceedings?"

From the October 21 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: Now this is a really interesting story. Congressman Tom DeLay, as you know, has been indicted for campaign finance irregularities. The judge in the case, Bob Perkins, has given money to MoveOn.org, the far-left crazy website. So now DeLay says, "Look, I want another judge." And DeLay's absolutely right. You can't have a judge in the Tom DeLay case that gives money to MoveOn.org. That's insane. Why not let Fidel Castro preside over the proceedings? So DeLay wants a new judge, and he'll probably get one. Because if he doesn't, then I mean, anything that happens will be appealed, and they'll win the appeal. You can't -- and this nutty judge -- I mean, why would you give money to -- why don't you give it to the Nazi Party? You know, these people are so extreme, it's ridiculous.

That boy is really confused if he equates MoveOn with the Nazi Party.

10. He's trying to get attention just like madonna does with her act.
I say the best way to treat this is to laugh at anyone who uses that phrase. Look them in the eye and give them a great big belly laugh.

Then let the ridiculousness of that statement sink in by walking away.

6. O'Reilly is an idiot and a coward
He won't have David Brock on because Media Matters lays out all of O'Reilly's lies and bullshit in context. O'Reilly fears MoveOn as well.

Aren't his radio ratings practically in the negative numbers? I imagine you could be heard by more people by sticking your head out the window and yelling.

The fact that Bush's grandfather financed the Nazis, and continued to do so 8 months after the US entered the war should be made more widely know.

19. ridiculous
They target MoveOn only because they have the ability to raise money - BIG money - in a very short amount of time. Money that fights the agenda of the true extremists in the administration.

I've attended several MoveOn events - some of them oooh so radical, like a bake sale - and I've yet to meet any wild-eyed Marxists. I have met mainly white, middle class suburban moms and dads who hate what kind of a world Bush is handing over to their children. About half have never been involved in politics, but feel the stakes are too high to stay silent, be it on the war, the environment, the right to choose, or the neocons who are determined to blow up the planet. I actually find MoveOn kind of mild in their politics - jeez, they're hardly the Weather Underground, but that's how the right has to portray them - it's part of their demonization of anything to the left of Cheney. That, and their fear of MoveOn's fundraising ability. It's no surprise they've targeted them with this campaign of lies and fear.

Thanks Billy, for clearing that up. Wouldn't want anyone thinking this 40ish, successful, white, suburb dwelling woman is one of those radical-lefty-extremist-fringe-nutty-liberals.

24. Will the jews stand up for themselves on this one??
Isn't it funny how an ad someone mailed to MoveOn contained a comparison between bush and hitler, and the jews were screaming mad and the ad was removed.

But now it's ok for republicans to say MoveOn is the same as the Nazi party??

I'd love to see some jewish speakers comment on this, publicly to mr. Oreally, and ask him to produce evidence showing how many millions of people MoveOn has killed, that it is any way comparable to the evil of the Nazi party.

26. Uh... I thought the problem with MoveOn was that "Bush=Nazi" ad.
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 01:10 PM by Marr
Even though it was just some anonymously submitted ad, I thought it was supposed to be the proof of their wild extremism. I thought the Nazi comparison was supposed to instantly label someone a "kook".

They've moved past hypocrisy and into the land of Hypocrisy³ these days, it seems.
