Richard Sale: Indictments will be announced this afternoon
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 12:46 PM by sunnystarr

An hour ago I was contacted by a U.S. government official close to the Fitzgerald case. This person told me that there WILL be indictments announced later this afternoon, and the Special Prosecutor will hold a press conference tomorrow.

11. I found some very old screenwriting credits
that seem to be his, but they go back almost fifty years.

So, he's a blogger of some kind, I guess.

I'll wait for the real deal.

30. Here's why I'm doing it
Remember how many people crashed and burned after the Presidential election in November 2004? It was just awful, all those hopes and expectations, and then the crushing depression and anguish that followed.

I like the good people of DU too much to let that happen again - if I can help it.

Besides, I'm essentially a really mean person, so I enjoy doing this.....

Obviously, we tend to get caught up in the mass hysteria that is pre-announcement DU. But people seem to lose all sense of rationality and seem to believe anything they read on the internet(s) as gospel, when it's not. Especially in a case like this.

only way he will be out is, if Chenney is indicted and resigns, we have a VEEP apointed and confirmed and the 25th ammendment is invoked... that is the only way you can get rid of bushie boy fairly fast

So we will still have him around for a little while... STEADY... S-T-E-A-D-Y

27. He says Cheney has been asked for more information, probe continuing
This part of Richard's earlier posting is interesting to me about probe being extended at least in part due to recent revelation about Cheney's involvement:

"Although most press accounts emphasized that Fitzgerald was likely to concentrate on attempts by Libby Rove and others to cover-up wrongdoing by means of perjury before the grand jury, lying to federal officials, conspiring to obstruct justice, etc. But federal law enforcement officials told this reporter that Fitzgerald was likely to charge the people indicted with violating Joe Wilson's civil rights, smearing his name in an attempt to destroy his ability to earn a living in Washington as a consultant.

The civil rights charge is said to include "the conspiracy was committed using U.S. government offices, buildings, personnel and funds," one federal law enforcement official said.

Other charges could include possible violations of U.S. espionage laws, including the mishandling of U.S. classified information, these sources said.

That Vice President Cheney is at the center of the controversy comes is no surprise. Last Friday, Fitzgerald investigators were talking to Cheney's attorneys, and detailied questionaires, designed to pin down in meticulous sequence what Cheney knew, when he knew it, and what he told his aides,, were delivered to the White House on Monday, these sources said.

The probe is far from being at an end. According to this reporter's sources, Fitzgerald approached the judge in charge of the case and asked that a new grand jury be empaneled. The old grand jury, which has been sitting for two years, will expire on October 28."

38. According to something John Dean wrote a while back,
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 01:22 PM by janeaustin
IIRC, this part of your post indicates grounds for an additional charge of fraud:

The civil rights charge is said to include "the conspiracy was committed using U.S. government offices, buildings, personnel and funds," one federal law enforcement official said.

I'd have to look up Dean's FindLaw article that talked about fraud, but that listing of "buildings, personnel and funds" sounds familiar.

If I remember correctly, Dean had suggested that that was a charge for which Fitzgerald could almost certainly get a conviction.

(Edited for clarity.)

How is it that the indictments would be announced but no press conference by Fitz? Are they going to be posted on his webpage? Will there be arrests? How is it that they will be announced?
