Helpful advice from the First Lady...
Gang tattoos hinder job prospects?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush said on Tuesday that young people are more likely to get jobs if they avoid tattoos, as well as drugs and alcohol.

...snip...

"We want young people to avoid gangs. And we know that if they're not tattooed with gang tattoos, they're more likely to be employable," Bush said.

...snip...

"Well, if you're tattooed on your face or your arms ... where people can see it ... most employers probably would not hire you," Bush said, according to a transcript released by the White House.

and sometimes they are on their arms. I guess someone forgot to tell them they were unemployable.

8. What about if they are people of color and have white tattoos?
How about if they can't read well, or are have kids and unaffordable daycare? That makes it hard to get hired also. Laura.

Tattoos on the face will eliminate about 95% of job prospects, likewise tattoos on hands. Arms can be covered, but ink that can't be covered is a dealbreaker in most jobs that aren't minimum wage or construction.

15. Another good thing to avoid, kids:
Young people should try to avoid
living in a nation ruled by criminals
who have looted the public coffers
and crippled the economy for generations to come.

NON-EXISTENT employers definitely won't hire you!

... Laura is conducting the orchestra, Rove is down in the galley telling the cook lies about the cook's wife, Rummy is in the engine room making the black gang do full dress inspection, and Cheney is at helm, telling the first mate, Scooter, to look again, because there's no damned icebergs out there.

The ship of state is doing just fine... for the moment.

18. I don't like Laura one bit!
She is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Ever since their first xmas in the WH I have had a great dislike toward her. They had a animal tree with past presidential pets on it but there was just not enough room for Sox and Barney the witch explained. She is not a nice woman.

19. That's funny...I work for a very conservative firm
They seem to have had no qualms about hiring me with the two tattoos on my forearm or the piercing in my nose.

(All right, so I live in San Francisco, but still.)

She should stop encouraging employers to discriminate based on personal appearance.

Oh, and Laura? Show 'em the battleship!!!!

20. Is she out of touch.
Tattoos are more the norm these days for young people.

Who is she to dictate her redneck standards to the rest of the country? Having a tattoo doesn't necessarily translate into the raunchy behavior of her twin daughters.

21. That is sort of stuff that goes without saying.
Most employers, if they see you with tattoos and strange piercings are going to already put a couple strikes against you and people should always stay away from drugs and alcohol. And the gang stuff, well, that's like saying we don't want people to commit murder. Everyone already knows that.

30. Let's see, today in Trader Joe's market
my groceries were checked by a woman who had tatoos completely covering her arms. People I know who have tatoos include my sister-in-law, niece, and three of the moms of my 12-year-old's friends. None of them has had any tatoo-related job issues.

Clearly, Pickles has never spent much time in Southern California.
