HOW could Plame or Wilson be indicted? Seriously, not joking. |
|
I keep hearing from Freepers and rightwing Farkers that Fitz is going to indict Wilson and Plame and it's blowing my mind. Um... okay, am I missing something? Is there any way, any reason for the good ambassador and his wife to be indicted for anything? I haven't heard anything specific from the wingnuts, but is there any way they would be indicted?
By what twisted legal stretch, no matter how deranged, could Valerie Plame or Joe Wilson be possibly indicted for? Is there any feasible way they could be found of any wrongdoing?
Maybe it's just my paranoia talking. Actually, it IS my paranoia talking. Although I do realize how completely insane these Freepers are.

anyone who speaks against the Second Coming (the name some of them use for Bush) should not only be indicted, but convicted, drawn, and quartered.

It is impossible. They are the VICTIMS in all this.
What the crazy people are doing is often termed "whistling in the dark." They are frightened, so they are constructing a world view to ameliorate their fears.

Ignore them, smile, laugh, change the subject, whatever.
Don't confront--far better to let them get hit up the backside of the head with a two by four. Confronting them with facts would only prepare them for the inevitable, encourage a fortress mentality, and allow them to marshal arguments in mitigation. I personally would prefer that they have the rug yanked out from under them...

|
and i quote from http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1509658/posts It could be he's looking for more info from Rove to help indict Plame for running a CIA-based operation against the president during a campaign season.

So let me see if I've got this right.
Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame are part of a CIA-based cabal to take down President Bush, and that's really what this is all about.

but, supposedly the CIA hates this administration and the Wilsons tried to undermine the admin.'s reasons for war because of this hatred. That's all I have been able to determine, not sure if it is correct and don't know how that would translate to charges.

26. DING! one correct answer |
|
They are trying to raise the possibility so that the talk leading up to what ever happens includes this. It kills time and plants "There are questions you know..." in people's heads or at least tries to. I didn't work in the Schiavo debacle and it hasn't worked here-even MSM won't care THAT water for them.
Also it will be at least for a while its own cottage industry. Someone will write a book on it and Regenery will publish it and the author will go on all the shows and so forth.
Lastly-this also serves to convict them of something no one has accused them of. They are trying to taint Wilson and Plame (didn't take his name you know ;-) ) like you would in a rape case.

25. What are the possibilities? |
|
I mean, what could anybody be indicted for in this case?
Let's discount the 'CIA conspiracy' entirely; if so, he'd have called in a different set of people for testimony.
Perjury and obstruction of justice. There's no indication that Wilson or Plame have testified or been subpoenaed for evidence. So unlesst there's something subtle I'm missing, we can rule those possibilities out.
Divulging a covert operative's name and blowing her cover? Well, Wilson certainly knew it. And so did Plame. But I have trouble imaging that an operative could be prosecuted for self-outing.
Could Wilson have done so? Presumably. There have been statements in stories that for a few weeks prior to his writing his NYT piece he'd been talking to people. "Agitating", so to speak, without the pejorative connotation the word has. Could he have mentioned something that ineluctably led to his wife's cover being blown, and could Fitzgerald have come up with a lot of witnesses making Wilson's testimony irrelevant? Sure. And it could even explain why they'd go around again questioning their neighbors. But I'd suspect that the prosecutor would still want to get the target's testimony on the record.
I can't think of anything that we actually *know* (as opposed to the endless leaks of confidential that most of us seem to be hankering after ... ironic, in a GJ investigation over the leak of confidential information) that indicates either is likely to be indicted.

28. The lines of reasoning the freeps |
|
are using is wishful thinking at best.
On other(Independent minded) blogs i've seen ...The story basically hashes out like this:
Joe Wilson & Valerie Plame really suffered no Ill effects from the outing, quite to the contrary they were enriched and made out to be heroic. This is a stark contrast to David Kelly who died in despair or met with more ominous circumstances. In addition The operation B-J had it's sites on (AQ Kahn ) that covert CIA operation was all but wrapping up shop on or before the SOTU in mid January 2003...so all this had led to speculation of Plames true role in all this. So some blogs have speculated that she wanted to come in from the cold, she was pregnant, to settle down for family and cash in on the notoriety. Further they speculate she was a willing pawn in the goal of shutting down the associates of B-J.
It gets way more detailed from there as they attempt to fill in the blanks of the many unanswered questions that are still out there...some of it quite convincing.
all that is a far cry from what freepers are saying , but I think they have taken some of the themes of it and bastardized it to their own purposes...as is always their MO.
