The first known use of the term "Fitzmas" was on October 6, 2005 by SpiralHawk on the Democratic Underground website. <2> (Other DU members had previously drawn the analogy to Christmas.) Since then Fitzmas spirit has spilled off the web and into the real world, as evidenced by this Fitzmas decoration.

Since then, the term has spread into the media, being used on (but not limited to) The Al Franken Show, The Mike Malloy Show (both with Fitzmas Carols), The Rachel Maddow Show and Morning Sedition of Air America, The Bernie Ward Show (with a reading of "The Night Before Fitzmas"), and on 10/25, by Sean Hannity on FOX News so it has truly gone 'mainstream' on 'both sides of the aisle'.
