Why in the Hell are They Still Debating Valerie Wilson's CIA Status?
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 04:55 PM by leftchick
On Hardball just now...I thought the questions about her status were answered two years ago. Tweety is grilling two attorneys whether she really was a NOC. And they are talking about the FBI visits to the Wilson's neighbor's last night. Is this really still a question to people what her status was? Why in the hell would the CIA want an investigation if she was not in NOC?

on edit: Larry Johnson is on wolfie now slamming the traitors and talking about valerie's job!

2. Well, if you listen to Faux News
Its a given that she wasn't covert.

So when those RW dingbats come out into decent company, they start spewing their cultish drivel, other people have to swat down the stupid lie talking point again.

3. And why does it matter if Joseph Wilson is "credible?"
They blew the cover of Valerie Plame--that has *nothing* to do with whether Joe Wilson is credible.

because he was probably responding to a question/concern from a grand juror.

I'll go look for a video clip and past a link in later if I find one.

Maybe he is batting at them like a cat for his amusement?

7. Desperate attempts to muddy the waters of public opinion.
Since the FACTS aren't on their side,
all they can do is attempt to throw
out so much BS that people become confused.

No, there is NOT any real question.

The CIA says she was NOC: end of debate.

8. Yep, you're right
And this claim that "everyone" knew she worked at CIA is laughable. Even before the story today that Fitz interviewed Valerie's neighbors about whether they knew where she worked, I was outraged that Repubs said such loose generalities. Exactly how did they know that "everyone" knew? Was a poll taken? Please give me evidence to back up your statement. Mon Dieu!

9. You'd be impressed with the segment on CNN right now.
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 04:36 PM by VolcanoJen
The segment opened with the reporter saying, "What harm was done when Valerie Plame's identity was revealed? For one, the United States lost a veteran undercover agent, and asset."

The focus of the story was CIA officials who, off-record, have told reporters that the revelations "damaged" the CIA.

CNN seems to be operating on the "Valerie Plame was a covert CIA operative whose identity was revealed via Bob Novak's column" premise, overall.

Larry Johnson is on opposite Wolf now, and he concurs that Plame was a United States intelligence resource that was destroyed.

In terms of Novak's insistence that Plame's status was no secret, Johnson says that Novak is lying, or has demonstrated that he doesn't know what he's talking about. In terms of Cliff May's same insistence, Johnson says he has no respect for May, and that his information on this issue has been repeatedly inaccurate.

This seems like a blockbuster... Johnson says that Plame has received death threats originating with Al-Qaeda. Has he implied this before? Wolf seemed a bit taken aback by it.

Excellent segment.

They are the ones most vulnerable out in the field. She changed to Covert Status a couple of years ago when she started working at Langley, but she still is supposed to be held to the same standard of cover. No One Should Have Known Who Did Not Have Clearance to Know.

Required to have a TS/BI (Top Secret / Background investigation). Heard stories from my folks and friends about DIS (Defense investigative service) asking all kinds of weird shit about me.

Nothing is miniscule to these folks. They're pretty hardcore. It wasn't what I knew, it was the equipment that I had to carry with me.

Interesting career field, to say the least. Of course, my sorry ass was stuck in South Dakota for 4 years.

BRRRRRRR..

36. Wow
I'm wondering then, if someone is NOC, it's actually more dangerous than being covert because if the agent gets into trouble, the agency can just wash it hands? Is that it?

39. Definitely: "You are disavowed"
This is totally fascinating. Why doesn't the CIA want all agents to be covert? What is the benefit to either the CIA or the agent to be NOC rather than some more protected status?

48. There's more than just agents in the CIA.
Administrative and clerical types, for example. These folks would most likely have no need for "covert" status.

Security clearances take alot of time and money so I would assume that they would carry at least a "Confidential" clearance. Taking the steps above, "Secret" and then "Top Secret" aren't given out to just anybody.
There has to be a work related reason to carry these clearances.
