Why would you make something up out of thin air and then believe it for no reason?

However it can be more precisely put that extremist bigot Christians share some of his views. A few of which are central to Christianity I'd suppose.

On edit: Sorry to snap if you're being facetious, but there are numerous people here who would make such a comment without irony, so it's kind of hard to tell.

68. All three of your statements are scary.
"But you're on their team." is a statement of ignorance and divisiveness.

"So there." is a juvenile statement not worthy of debate.

"Do you love your country more than you love God?" is a statement that smells of nationalistic crap while trying to marginalize a person's religious beliefs.

Druids think the Great Ghost In The Sky made people and he loves All the People that He made and accepts them all.

40. Uh, my God DOESN'T hate you.
My God loves all people.

Not all Christians are right-wing, bugfuck insane, crazy ass, Bible thumping, bigoted idiots. I know, I know, that's about all you see of them on TV. But, might I point out that Jimmy Carter is a Christian? I doubt very seriously that he believes in a God who hates you or anyone else. And neither do I.

You can believe whatever you want. But don't tell me I believe in a God who hates people. I don't.

Why do you fall for the cherry-picked stuff the right wing nutzoids use to justify their hatred and bigotry? They ignore the admonitions to love others as themselves, they ignore the part about "what you do to the least among you, you do also to me." Conveniently.

If a person REALLY follows the teachings of that JC guy, they don't harbor any hate in their heart for ANYONE. They love EVERYONE. They turn the other cheek. They don't practice violence. They give away what they have to those who need it more. They--just--love. Period.

That's the JC that right wingers don't want to be reminded of, though. That's the JC they don't want to know about. They like the dead, crucified, unable to speak JC because he can't shake his head at them and cry at their hatred.

85. So you believe in God, but you hate him?
But you do realize God is whatever you believe God to be, right?

The right wingers believe God is this hateful, judgemental being who is ALWAYS on their side.

You seem to have bought into that.

I don't. Simple as that. I'm not trying to defend anything. I don't like the right wing fundies either. I'd rather peel off my toenails than even have to be around them.

I'm just saying just because THEY believe God is like that doesn't make it true. They don't determine MY truth, see what I mean? They don't have some kind of patent on what God is, LOL. They don't OWN God. No one does.

I hope you get some peace over this. If I were you, I'd have to just believe there is no God rather than believe in such a hateful hurtful awful one. Stay away from churches if you wish, I can't blame you there, I won't go in about 99% of them.

I was raised to believe in a punishing God. But I abandonded that belief after it brought me a *lot* of pain as an adult. I no longer believe that. I believe God loves us all and that he wants us to have peace and be happy and love one another. That's all. Simple.

By the way, don't ever accuse me of excusing ANY right winger or fundie. I excuse them not a BIT. There is no excuse for them or their hatefulness or ignorance. I don't recognize the God they worship. It is not mine.

63. Take these verses with the first two that say things have not changed
"In the beginning was the Logos,(word) and the Logos (word)was with God, and the Logos(word) was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men ... And the Logos(word) became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son from The Father." (John 1:1-4,14 RSV)

Jesus Himself confirmed the verbal plenary inspiration of the Scriptures when He said, "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:17-18). In these verses Jesus is reinforcing the accuracy of the Scriptures down to the smallest detail and the slightest punctuation mark because it is the very word of God.

And so Christians who believe the bible is gods words or "logos" as it says it is in the bible bash gays because the bible god really does HATE gays..and witches and drunks ect.ect.Your god is a hateful god ask a sodomite or a caananite..

Homophobic lines

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman: it is an abomination" (Lev 18:22).

"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall be put to death: their blood is upon them" (Lev 20:13).

"God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error" (Rom 1:26-27).

"Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers - none of these will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Cor 6:9-10).

The condemnation of the law applies for those "who kill their father or mother, for murderers, fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers" ( 1 Tim 1:9-10).

Leviticus also has crazy shit like it being illegal to eat shellfish and the law about having to sell your daughters into slavery, etc.

You don't see any right wing nutzoids following THAT shit, do you?

See? They cherry pick to justify their hatred.

That is VERY against the teachings of Jesus. Why do you ignore all of Jesus' admonitions to love one another, to treat each other as good as you would treat yourself? To treat the lowest among us as a king? To LOVE?

You choose to ignore all that, just like the right wing nutzoids do.

Some guy once counted all the times admonitions to fight poverty and work for peace appeared in the New Testament. It was like THOUSANDS of times. He said THOSE are the real values in the Bible. Fighting poverty and working for peace. Just going off the sheer number of times they are mentioned and emphasized over and over I'd have to say he's right.

But hey if you want to believe in a hateful vengeful ugly God, have at it, who am I to stop you?

If they urge me to go against what is right . I think sadism, bigotry and torture, slavery, rape and genocide is 100% wrong.

Yet the bible does not think so.In fact in the bible Jesus defends hate.

"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)

I don't generally read books I hate. I sincerely hope you have peace. I'm saying that as a human, not as any particular believer of any particular thing. Just person to person. Peace to you.

53. You sound like you have been hurt very badly
by Christians. I am sorry about that and hope you find healing.

As to your last question. This place is so flawed and sick becaus so many don't see the wisdom in the following:

Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"

He said in reply, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."

He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live."

Lords are rulers, dominators. I will not be lorded over.
Lords are abusers.
Jesus is a lord so he is no being worth my love.

76. Okay. The Old Testament is generally to be disregarded since it
is mostly allegory and morality tales dressed up in legends. The New Testament, the heart of Christianity, says nothing about gays.

52. Hey!
Don't drag us Pagans into it. We have our own problems with those bug-nuts fish worshipers!

I have no problems with Christians who are respectful of my beliefs, but start dragging Leviticus into the conversation and I'll call you to the carpet and give you rug burn.

I know there are good Christians out there. I just wish they weren't so darn quiet. I would love to see more public commentary along the lines of those UCC ads that came out a few months ago.

56. LOL
I thought it was about time someone mentioned the pagans in all of this. The only group of people more educated about the history of Christianity and biblical contradictions than the pagans are the atheists. It's hard not to bash someone who seems completely ignorant of the religion they espouse.

I'm married to a witch and usually considered "pagan by default" though I'm probably closer to agnostic than pagan being that I'm a pantheist humanist. Or is that humanist pantheist?

I can never remember which order to put the words.

50. The Gay Pride Parade in Toronto this year had a church group
in marching in the front.

The linkage of Christianity and homophobia is stupid and destructive regardless of the ideological bent of the person making the link.

51. Hey! My church was in a gay pride parade this year!
It was awesome. Our minister had just performed a ceremony for a lesbian couple and we made a float and everything. The whole church showed up to cheer them on and we had a booth.

Actually there were a LOT of church groups in that parade. Someone I was there with who went last year said there were a hell of a lot more than in the past.

69. United Church of Canada....
A very progressive church in Canada

One resolution stated that "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered as well as heterosexual orientations are gifts from God, part of the marvelous diversity of creation." The next resolution went on to "affirm lesbian and gay partnerships, recognize them in church documentation and services of blessing, and actively work for their civil recognition." The final motion asked DMC to "find new and creative ways to encourage congregations of the United Church to enter into the affirming congregation study process."

This is from their General Council in 2000.

I figured if any church group was marching in a Gay Pride parade, it would be the United Church.

Or maybe I miswrote it. I'm saying it would be perfectly normal if the United Church participated in the parade, which I think you'd agree with. Although I think we're talking about different United Churches: I mean the United Church of Canada and it looked like you're talking about the United Church of Christ which exists in the U.S. :silly:

They're both good churches though.

On edit: oh, now I see your post about the United Church of Canada. Man, I should duck outta here before I spread anymore confusion.

(I think a pagan republican is weirder. Just for the record, LOL.)

The actual teachings of Jesus are quite radical. And being gay doesn't mean you automatically have no spiritual feelings.

71. So do I
Hence the "almost as weird" portion.

It's probably due to my complete disillusionment with Christianity in general. Some of Christ's concepts are nice, but NEVER since its inception has that religion ever been much more than a pack of towering bullies running rough-shod over everyone else.

Right now it's the gays.

That's to say that there haven't been good Christian people, or even sects. The Quakers come to mind. But, in general, Christianity has been dominated by people I wouldn't want to share a country with, much less a spiritual path. Its history is fiendish, anti-social, and downright cruel.

102. I did a few years ago . . .
When I was in HS I was really stupid. I was never someone who bashed people or beat them up but I did refer to some people as "fags" or "queers." I also had ridiculous notions that homosexuals were "morally inferior" as well.

I was stupid then and have repented my past. I seek to treat everyone with dignity while continually fighting against all discriminatory thought. When you make a concentrated attempt to rid yourself of prejudices, generalizations, and such you come to realize how prejudice you truly are. I am haunted by things I used to say and think. There is no doubt my sins were many.

Not all Christians slam gays and this topic could have been raised in a much less flamey fashion.
