Why you should get an attorney if you are arrested.
1) Your probably guilty. :P

2) The legal system is geared towards attorneys. Meaning, a judge is more likely to listen to an attorney then he/she is to you.

3) You think you know the law. Odds are you do not.

4) Local attorneys usually know the Police Officers involved. Easier to make a plea deal or get charges dropped when the Police are not overly hostile.

5) People often fail to Remain Silent. :) You are going to get yourself in trouble. You need someone to remind you to keep quiet.

6) Police lie. I am not talking about the illegal lying on the stand. I am talking about lying to suspects on scene or while investigating a crime. The Police do not have to tell you the truth. They can say they have evidence they do not etc. You need someone to remind you when to remain silent. You need someone that can get access to the evidence.

7) Attorneys can get fines reduced. They know the judges and know what sob story to give to get a reduction.

8) Innocent people go to jail all of the time.

9) No one in the legal system has your best interest in mind except for your attorney. To the Police, DA, Grand Jury and Judge you are just another case.

10)Police and District Attorneys make mistakes. Will you know how to spot them? Probably not.

11) Attorneys have sold their souls to satan and need the money to do his bidding. :)

Just a few off the top of my head.

Peace

1. This announcement has been sponsored by
the American Trial Lawyers Association. :P

I'm just kidding. It's good advice. I don't agree with #11, but I do agree that too many people think they can go it alone because they watched LAlaw in the 80s :)

2. You're right. I've been in the court both as a defendant and as a lawyer.
Trust me. You need a lawyer when police are involved.

3. Was it
Lincoln that said. A man that represents himself has a fool for a lawyer.
