Its nice to know what others at work think of you! I'm politically vocal
and sorry that I offend others but I guess not...check this out...

26 October 2005

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been asked to write Greenbriar a letter of reference for the Master’s degree in Special Education. I have worked with xxx for the last year and find her to be a wonderful teacher. xxx shows the students under her charge the caring and support that makes a teacher special in the minds of students. xxx is always willing to go the “extra mile” in helping a student finish a project, retake a test, or even to have a shoulder to cry on when necessary.

Greenbriar is an advocate for her students and her colleagues when needed. She is not afraid to take a stand when another teacher is being bulldozed by administration or colleagues. xxx works very hard to keep the climate of the school as productive as possible.

xxx will be an excellent candidate in your Master’s of Special Education Program.

Sincerely,

1. and another

I worked with Greenbriar closely this year in my position as special education department chair. As a social studies teacher in the newly formed Freshman Academy, xxx has overcome the problems of a new teaching system for freshman in a highly diverse high school. xxx has show a willingness to adapt her teaching methods and to seek advice from other experience teachers when she is facing a difficult situation.

Her commitment to students is unparalleled. xxx develops positive relationships with her students. Her ability to create these special professional bonds with her students is amazing. Her collaboration with regular education teachers within xxx High has led to an increase in students’ performance for students with special needs.

xxx loves to teach. Her enthusiasm is projected to both staff and her students and she continually interacts with them in a positive manner. She creates a comfortable environment for students to learn. Her warm and caring nature contributes to the learning atmosphere she has established for her students.

xxx\is one of the strongest advocates for her students that I have ever encountered. As a regular education, xxx takes great strides to ensure that students under her charge are receiving the services required for them to succeed. She is persistent and determined in her advocacy efforts for her students. xxx does not give up on the most difficult and challenging students. Her advocacy efforts on behalf of students have led to admiration from both staff and students.
xxx ensures that all special education accommodations are met in her class.

xxx skills as a regular education teacher are an inspiration for others. Her drive towards perfection in creating an atmosphere for learning is truly awe-inspiring. She earns respect not only from her peers and administrators, but also from her students. xxx is fair and honest with her students. She clearly communicates her expectations with her students at a level in which the students know exactly what they must do to succeed. xxx fosters an environment in her classroom in which students want to learn. She treats each student with dignity and respect and in turn the students respect her as well.

Sincerely,

XXXXX
Special Education Department Chair

2. I went through the same thing when applying to grad school
I know they assume they are expected to BS a bit, but the glowing letters I got from co-workers/supervisors gave me the warm fuzzies.

4. You know it
and congratulations in advance on acceptance. If you are as good as your references say, you are a shoo in. References do help a lot, especially when you've accumalated "real world" experience.
