Who went to a vigil tonight? Check in!
I hosted one at the beach. Some good soul helped me build a fire and we all spoke briefly about what brought us to that fire.

We were only a handful, small but mighty. :)

1. Inverness, Florida
A small but effective group put up names of the Florida troops who died in the Iraq war. Candles were along side the road. The names of the 2001 who died were read.

5. Went to one in Yachats, on the coast of Oregon.
As each of the 2000 names was read, a bell sounded. It took a while.

7. Thank you, Ron.
I'm GLAD it took a while.

We read of the names of our fallen, too.

I need this to end.

I thought it was such a good piece by our local guys -- truly "fair and balanced."

13. 75 gentle people at a park overlooking Port Gardner
We got the park at about 6:00. We took an easel and made an altar, placing
a framed photo of AFSC "Eyes Wide Open" empty boots. We placed three
yellow roses and 2 candles in front of the photo and lit them. We stood
aside. At about 6:15 several people walked up and placed a path of luminary
candles in paper bags with little stars cut out, right up to the altar we
had made. Then some folks came with a big box of candles and more people
came. Each took a candle or lit the candles they brought. A circle of
about 75 people holding candles formed. The host called for a moment of
silence. She then read the names of all the Soldiers who have died from
Washington State. An Iraqi Veteran then picked up his trumpet and played
Taps. He followed it with Amazing Grace. By the time he got to "I once was
lost" I had to hand my candle to my daughter and run to the car for my
Hankie. ARGH... Each person, after a while, walked up the luminary path
and placed their still burning candles in the grass in front of the easel.
No small talk, No Speeches, No plans, it just happened, and it was
beautiful and sad.

for taking time out of your life to do that tribute.

Truly, thank you.

War protestors gather to mark grim death toll in Iraq

By Paul Bukta
and KATU Web Staff
PORTLAND, Ore. - War protestors in Portland gathered in two locations Wednesday evening to call attention to the toll passing 2,000 Americans killed in the Iraq war.

The two groups eventually combined to become one large protest along Waterfront Park, where protestors held candles in the cool Fall air.
