1. Beat me to it, I just heard it too......
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 08:28 AM by converted_democrat
To clarify though, they said that there would be no announcements in regards to the case. They did not state that there would be no indictments, just no announcements. Just clarifying what was said.

edit --to clarify

12. I'm sure it's much worse for Rove, Libby etc
Today is the day when these guys are told, "We have you on three counts of blah, blah, blah. I can get you charged with A, B and C tomorrow. Don't you think it's time to cut a deal?"

Pins and needles for DUers, much worse for the Bealzebush admin.

28. One reporter got him to speak some yesterday:
"Today the day?" one reporter asked him after he had passed through the metal detector. "I've got no comment, sorry," he said, striking a sympathetic tone.

Another reporter tried a less direct tack. Referring to the swarm of cameramen outside the courtroom who had all but assaulted him with their lenses when he arrived at the courthouse, she said, "They are getting some good shots of you."

Fitzgerald, who knows the whole world is waiting for him to speak, took the bait. "Oh," he said, in an admirably self-deprecating tone. "There is no good shot of me."

And that's about all -- on-the-record -- we got from Fitzgerald.

15. They said that they got the info from Fitz's office......
They said that there would be no announcements.....But they did not say that there would be no indictments, just no announcements...thought you might want to hear the clarification.

20. Is He Meeting With The Judge???
Of all people, hack writer Mike Allen gave a pretty decent scenario last night. It looks like Fitzgerald is running out the clock and putting pressure on principals in his case to cop a last minute plea before he pulls the trigger. This man is very good at getting people to go to the brink and they blink...not he (ask Judy Miller). Tomorrow's deadline is the ultimate brink...thus if someone's gonna sing rather than share a cell with Bubba then now's the time to play "let's make a deal".

Also, I'd be curious if Fitzgerald is meeting with the judges involved as that surely indicates that some further legal procedings are coming...including the possibility of empanelling a second grand jury based on a whole new set of charges.

In the meantime, the White House twists...the right wing spins and we get to enjoy all their silliness. Just think of it as Fitzukah...7 nights instead of just one...and this is the forth night...and the best presents are still ahead.

22. According to my sources
indictments often come down on Friday after the courts have closed for the weekend. That way the targets can't run to court to minimize the effect. If there are arrests the indictees have to spend the weekend in jail. I doubt any of these guys will actually be arrested but you never can tell.

Just saying.

26. You can't post bail until you have a preliminary hearing
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 11:18 AM by LittleWoman
in front of a judge who sets the bail and I do not believe you can go to night court for a bail hearing on a federal charge. This source of my previous information is familiar with the workings of the office of the federal prosecutor.

edited for clarity

Bail is set upon the issuance of an arrest warrant.

30. I could be wrong too but
it is my understanding that in felony cases there is a hearing in front of a judge to set bail and bail is set depending on the seriousness of the crime and risk of flight on the part of the defendant. I could not say for sure that this is the case in federal courts. To go back to my main point, I really do not think that any of the principals likely to be indicted will actually be arrested anyway, but it was a nice thought that they could spend the weekend in jail. This would be just a taste of things to come for them.
