DEMS: Frame the miers withdrawal this way! |
|
"Another example of how this president will bend to the wishes of the small cabal of right-wingers in the country. That he would go against his own wishes to appease them". What do you think folks?

This morning, former Sen. John Danforth (R-MO) spoke out about the undue influence of the religious right on the GOP-from what KSMU said, I took it that Danforth (himself a minister)has decided that extremists have taken over his party.

9. An excellent argument but... |
|
I think we have to see who the next nominee will be first. Judging by *'s character, I'm willing to bet he'll nominate a moderate just to stick it to the right, in which case your argument will be invalid.
But if he nominates a wingnut, I'm all for it.

17. We cannot base our frames on... |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:27 AM by slor
what they do, we must learn to frame with only one thing in mind, undermining their position. I have no doubt, that she would have worked to end pro-choice, if for no other reason than to appease the chimp's base, such was her perverse loyalty. He will of course nominate someone that appears more hardline than her, but make no mistakes, she would have been just as much a threat to our country as whomever he brings up next. At this point, the chimp now looks weaker than he did before, as he looks indecisive, and like a puppet, so this frame works well, and it is supported by the apparent facts, so even better. She did not "withdraw" due to actions by Dems, this was a move to appease the right-wingers that were all over her. And as a bonus, we get to speculate about the "whys" of her withdrawal. One that immediately comes to mind is that people were getting to close to NG/Vietnam avoidance story. I do hate to see what comes next, but I am elated at the chance to attack bush on this, should the Dems choose to use this tactic.

11. You are absolutely right on! Schumer is on CNN now saying |
|
exactly that! He is saying the Pres is listening to his extreme right wing. No republican Senator asked for her withdrawal, only bush's extreme right wing of the party. Excellent!

16. Why did they kill Ms. Miers nomination? |
|
It was a political homicide, the lady was never given a fair chance.
Ms. Miers was acceptable to the minority Dem's, is that why her nomination was killed? Because she appealed to most of America? And the radical-right couldn't accept a moderate?

She was involved with hiding W's Vietnam era guard records. She MAY have overseen the payoff to the guy who hid the papers. It could have come out under questioning.
It had to die. They'd love to have done it while indictments were in full coverage. Tee-hee-hee, it did not work out well for them.
