Defeat of Miers is a Victory for Common Sense |
|
Although conservative opposition was critical in defeating Miers, and although the next nominee is likely, from our point of view as Democrats and liberals, to be even worse, I have to regard the defeat of Miers as nothing short of a victory of common sense.
Conservative, liberal, or not, she was simply NOT QUALIFIED for the position of Supreme Court justice. Her nomination reflects how unseriously Bush takes his job.
I hope that the next nominee, even if he/she is too conservative for my tastes, is at least a high-quality legal mind.

Well, I have to disagree with that.
Scalia and Bork are dangerous lunatics, but they are intelligent (which is part of why they are dangerous).
Roberts is clearly very bright.

5. Conservatism Is a Limited, Limiting, Regressive, Retrenched Condition |
|
If the mind can only reach that stage, it ain't all that.
