Poll question: Could the Miers nomination / withdrawal be nothing but smoke and mirrors?
Funny how this all comes to a climax the same time the Grand Jury is wrapping up. Might be just all a coincidence. CNN even has racist Ann Coulter on giving her expert opinion whining through her nose on all this right now.

2. think this has been a set-up from the beginning. on the other hand,
the "tin ear to politics" comment heard on cnn this morning was interesting. (candy crowley, I think)

3. No
I honestly think Bush thought he could pull this off. Bush is too stupid for Machiavellian stuff.

15. Rove allowed Bush to pick this one ...
He was distracted by Plamegate and little Bushie wanted to take this one on himself. He failed and will be toast without Rove. And Rove is toast, therefore Bush is toast. Simple logic...

10. I think it was molly ivins who said that people who believe bush is stupid
have made precisely the conclusion he wants them to. I don't think he is stupid, but I do think he is cunning, vicious, completely amoral and arrogant almost beyond belief.

17. And he totally failed here. His advocacy for her was as stupid as it gets
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 09:50 AM by Zen
He looked and sounded like a total fool - if this is supposed to be revving up his base, it's not working. They are the most depressed looking bunch I've ever seen. Bush is losing his base and no conspiracy theorist can convince me otherwise. These are really glum people out here in the REAL WORLD...

7. MIHOP...I can hear Condescenda's voice already.
"Who could have imagined Harriet Miers would fly her nomination into the side of Fitzmas?"

8. Notice how Bush timed the 2000th death to coincide with the indictments?
But Fitzgerald tricked him and moved the indictments off a couple of days.

I'm kidding. And I'm sick of the tin-foil-hat bullshit on DU.

12. No, they've completely lost their political sense
They failed to see that post-Brownie nominating an unqualified crony was a really bad idea. They've wasted tons of time and political capital trying to sell this nominee and just pissed of everyone that got them to where they were, notably: the fundamentalist right, Congressional Republicans, and vast portions of the Republican Noise Machine.

They have no credibility with anyone anymore. They just cut their losses and ran.

13. Oh, another poll for the paranoid fools to show us up!!
This is getting rediculous - I'll listen to Stephanie Miller now - DU is getting stupid. This is the biggest failure of this administration and it's because Rove was caught up in the Plamegate. It's a clear as the depressed looks on the repuke faces at work. If anyone thinks this will be good for public opinion (Repuke reelection), then I got some good weed for you that will enhance your paranoid delusions...

16. Someone said it very well
The republicans are not going quietly. That is not their style. The Miers nomination was always meant to be misleading, with her record, shrub must of known her nomination would not fly. Look one way, while they are doing something in the background. It is their way and they are definitely not finished...

18. Nope, Bush really thought this one would fly. repukes in Congress
revolted on him and surprised him dramatically. I am seeing this for what it really is - a total and complete failure to make a decision without the help of Rove. He's toast without Rove - this should put his approval into the 20's...

20. Harriet Miers was a decoy Justice
I believe the shrub knew exactly what he was doing. Remember when Dobson said, he knew something, well this is what he knew. This was a ploy, a trick, a deceit on behalf of the administration. They know exactly what they are doing... Pretty low down to mess with a SCOTUS appointment like this. Shows how much respect they have for our government....

21. Hey, get that tin-foil hat adjusted - it's WAY too tight.
There is NO way any President would ever send up an appointment that could have easily gone smoothly if he really didn't want her in the first place. Bush really is a retarded moron without Rove.
