In the End would have Meiers potentially been better than a RW Judge?
Without a doubt it is the Repub party which defeated Meiers. The consensus is now that Bush will nominate a hard right Judge to replace her to satisfy the right wing Senators and thier base. With Indictments coming up (I believe) Bush will need to rally the base and he WILL select a very conservative nominee.

In the end, would it have been better to have taken a chance with Meiers--or to end up with a strong conservative?

1. She was just too fundamentally unqualified to take that chance

she would have worked to overturn Roe V Wade but even the conservatives
couldn't justify a nominee with NO EXPERIENCE. Made what a joke of an administration we have even more obviously rediculous.

3. She deserved an up or down vote
The republicans denied the president's choice that opportunity.

6. Irony! :D
You see it's ironic to accuse the president of this, since he and his supporters accused democrats of this on Roberts' nomination.

good stuff!

4. It's hard to say
I didn't think she was a good choice because she was obviously a crony. Having said that, I would like to have heard her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

7. No. She would have diminished the role and position of a Justice.
I can bear a qualified person disagreeing with a qualified person, even if in the short term things don't go my way every time.
