First order of business when Democrats retake Congress...
has GOT to be dismantling all black box voting and making all software that counts votes a matter of public record.

4. Thank you. Nothing gets done until AFTER the impeachment...
..then we can begin the arduous task of undoing all of the evil that has been done upon this great country...

Once the people's voice can be heard, reason will prevail. The second thing is to re-instate the fairness doctrine and rein in the runaway corporate media..

9. no no no no... Reinstate and strengthen EPA
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:08 AM by melissinha
Respectfully disagree....Reinstate and strengthen EPA laws... we're all dead if we don't.... Appoint a real scientist to the FDA that has no ties to corporations.....

Aren't we great??? WE are so concerned with all the important things like fairness, conservation, equality, accountability that we aren't all on message??? ITs a beautiful thing.

10. First order is we have to retake Congress....
..and that isn't going to happen when we worry too much about 2008 and not enough on 2006

13. DUers aren't smart enough to do both?
Besides, in many states represented by DUers, there's no way in hell that a Democrat is going to win in Congress, either because it's so strikingly red or because of Diebold, so these people may feel their efforts are better served by "worrying" about 2008.

I'm almost in that category. I'm in Tennessee. I will work for Harold Ford Jr. when he wins the Dem nomination (and he will win over Rosita because no one knows who she is), but it all depends upon who the Republican nominee is as to whether Ford has a snowball's chance in hell to win. If the Republicans nominate some Freep, Ford's got a shot. If they nominate the moderate running, well, it's over.

And, yes, before it gets said, I understand Ford is DLC, but he's still better than the freep-nuts Van Hillary or Bryant.

16. Then if that is our attitude we'll have to get use to repukes in charge
If we never even try then we have failed. I know there is no chance that we can defeat Mike Castle here in Delaware (Our lone representative and to be honest - pretty liberal for a repuke) but that doesn't mean I'm just giving up on 2006. I know there are a few vulnerable repuke seats in Pennsylvania & Maryland where maybe I can help get a democratic pickup. I could also donate a few dollars to a race where we might be able to make a difference. Hell, I don't need to live in the district to help out with making phone calls or other helpful ways to get out the vote and make a difference.

We can focus on both - but I think if we had the same energy about 2006 as we do with 2008 - we could move mountains if asked.

And btw, how quickly we forget about what Paul Hackett did in one of the most conservative congressional districts in Ohio - we almost picked up that seat. Democrats normally loose by double digits and he came within 2-3 points of beating a republican.

And btw, Kerry is DLC - would be very hypocritical for me to denounce Ford. I think he has a good chance of winning the seat - I'm crossing my fingers!

11. followed by a constitutional amendment clearly defining
separation of church and state.

It's about time we let the fundies find out what its like to have someone looking CAREFULLY at what they consider "their" rights to establish theocracy and practice deception.

12. Then we need the reestablishment of the Fairness Doctrine
in order to restore some kind of integrity and ethical standards to the freedom of our media.

14. Agreed. And Armed Forces Radio needs to be de-loused.
Meaning no more neo-cons. If there are any, they should be outnumbered 2:1 by guys like Ed Schultz. Also, Fox News needs to be removed from the military television line-up.

a damper on the corporations freedoms.

And then a change in the tax structure.

And then a no-spin education system.
