I KNOW indictments were handed up yesterday, and here's why....
Because today is last day for deals to be made. I do not think that all of the people that are going to be charged have been informed. IMO Fitz would not inform them because he doesn't want to tip his hand as to what evidence he has and who is cooperating. He is under no onligation to let anyone know that they have been indicted yet. I also have a suspicion that Rove is going to be charged and * has no intention of having KKKarl resign. Remember "anyone who has committed a crime", and I believe the next excuse out of their mouths will be "innocent until proven guilty". If Rove cops a plea he is automatically gone. This of course will be disastrous for *, but I think he is willing to take the hit. I don't think he can live without Rove, especially in the light of what is going to happen over the next couple of years with trials, appeals ect...

Just my buck and a half.

2. You are probably as close to right as anyone.
But I don't think Bush can take the hit. He might not realize that yet, but that's the fact.

10. It's that six-year-old's mentality that RWers have.
"If we just wish hard enough, it'll be true!" I wonder how they get through life with that mindset? Well, those who AREN'T named "Bush."

23. I think it's more like a
"If we just stomp and kick and scream loud enough we will get what we want" mentality.

Democrats appear to be wishing.

5. Later, * said, "Anyone convicted of a crime."
Conviction is a long way from tomorrow.

But I keep thinking about KKKarl's weird salute to the White House as he was leaving yesterday. Here's my blog post (and the pic-- plus the KKKarl nose thumbing pic):

7. I agree - there is some wheeling and dealing that we are not aware of
going on in this case. It always happens in this sort of case where obstruction and perjury charges are looming. Fitz is obligated to get the big fish - the one who committed the actual criminal act. I just hope we don't lose the real embarrassing aspects for the administration in the process :|

13. Yes. In fact, it's SUPPOSED to work that way for sealed
indictments, which these probably are.

Now, you would expect leaks in a case this big, but maybe, for once in our lifetimes, the court officers and the prosecution are actually obeying the rule of law and not leaking info.

Sealed indictments are SUPPOSED to be secret.

14. Indictments are handed down all the time without the media
being made aware of them.

(4) Sealed Indictment. The magistrate judge to whom an indictment is returned may direct that the indictment be kept secret until the defendant is in custody or has been released pending trial. The clerk must then seal the indictment, and no person may disclose the indictment's existence except as necessary to issue or execute a warrant or summons.

A lot can be done without media having knowledge when media is determined to be paid WH stenographers instead of journalists. ;)

9. But it is a process with stages
The special prosecutor presents draft indictments to grand jury and argues case (which likely did happen yesterday). Then the grand jury deliberates on its own and actually votes on whether prosecutor has presented a "true bill" or "no true bill." Then grand jury calls prosecution back and lets them know of decision. I don't think the grand jury has likely voted yet on the bill presented.

11. Here's the story - posted late last night
(wish I could reference but didn't save)

Indictments came down Weds., letters were sent to Rove and Libby and ?? with an offer to either plead by Friday, or more charges would be brought. Negotiations/decisions being made today.

I think the timing indicates Rove has a lot of power, as he likes to dump bad news on Fridays. My guess is they'll try to stop the bleeding of this thing by pleading to perjury/obstruction on Friday, then spin all weekend about how the whole thing was just a minor little charge, and be back to work by Monday.

I don't know if America will forget as quickly, though.

15. I don't think a story this large CAN be "dumped" - even
on a Friday.

This will be fodder for the Sunday shows and newspapers and will continue on next week whether there are negotiations for a plea deal or not.

The Friday "news dump" will not work when top officials in the White House are indicted.

12. It's Let's Make A Deal Day...
Fitzgerald's been making the rounds of laywers of the principals in recent days and with the clock about to strike 12, he's putting one final squeeze on people...either offering to "go light" or not indict at all.

The uncertainty is exactly what plays into Fitzgerald's hands. No one knows what he knows, but enough is out there to know this dude is hot ot the trail of something and either cut your deal now or take real big chances.

Cheers...

With the Republicans getting what they wanted with the with drawl of Mies, I'm sure they had to offer Bush something, and they are going to be reinforced and its going to get dirty.

24. I differ. Cases put to jury yesterday, they deliberate today and then
I differ. Fitzgerald put the cases to the jury yesterday, they deliberate today, and then tomorrow Fitzgerald hands down whichever of their indictments they voted for AND that he still wants. Today there will be heavy bargaining and Fitzgerald may get some plea agreements or flippers or info to tip the scales on another couple of indictments. Thus there might be a last minute deliberation tomorrow morning too.

I'm still hopeful, but I'm not expecting more than one or two people to get one or two charges, so that I'm not disappointed. Could still potentially be zero charges if the jury votes against Fitzgerald.

To allow the idictess to hang out in the WH until there is an announcemnt is probably ill-advised legally and certainly ill-advised from a PR standpoint.
