Bush Re: His thought processes on next nomination.
Given that Bush is a bully and he just got bullied - his natural tendency would be to nominate someone even less acceptable. Ya know, to show them who's the Boss.

The question is will Rove influence his next choice. Since Rove is already busy working on Senator Brownback's presidential run will it be to Rove's advantage to push for a conservative to calm things down or should he push for a moderate? The movement conservatives actually want a Senate fight to gin up their base - they don't care if they win or lose, they just want a fight and they think they can dance Dems into a corner. Also, they think a fight over the SC actually works to their advantage in the mid-terms.

Anyway, the next nominee has everything to do with 2006 and 2008 elections. The only question is how to play their base.

1. He'll put in a conservative
He's losing the support of his base, and if you have to spend all your time trying to convince your base you are right, it's a losing battle. Expect someone like Roy Moore.

2. Pickles' choice didn't go so well..
Maybe he should let Jenna and Barbara pick the nominee this time.

6. Uhm...I don't think Brad Pitt would get nominated, either.
Maybe I'm wrong.

3. I think this next choice will keep him up at night, and a lot of
conservatives, as well. It would be one thing if his numbers were holding, but they're crashing and burning. Add in the mid-term elections, and you've got to have someone that will walk a very thin tightrope.

Those Senators have to get re-elected, and I'm not sure all of them are willing to jeopardize their chances by going radical right.

5. When I got up this am and turned on the tv
and saw that the nomination was withdrawn I immediately assumed that the indictments were coming down to day as well and they were trying to muddy the news coverage. Guess I will have to wait another day for latest breaking from Fitzgerald.
