Jane Hamsher's wonderful post
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 11:09 AM by ewagner
This was on Huffington Post site. The article is well worth reading. I especially like these passages.

Before Wilson published his October 13, 2002 article for the San Jose Mercury News in which he was openly critical of BushCo.'s ramp up to war, he sent it to Scowcroft and Baker for review, as well as Poppy. Catch this:

Brent called me when he received the article. He kindly asked if he could "take it over to the White House," only about two blocks from his downtown office. He said that he thought senior officials ought to read the views of somebody who actually had experience in Iraq and with Saddam's government. (my emphasis)

So Poppys best friend Scowcroft (who's already on record for publicly calling Junior a buffoon) carries Wilson's article down to the White House and swats Junior over the head with it like a dog that had peed on the rug. Acting as a stand-in for his war veteran dad, holding Wilson up as a model of patriotism and bravery while laughing at Nintendo boy for launching a foolish war from the comfort of his BarcaLounger

on edit: Jane says that she thinks Dubya was in on the Wilson smear from the beginning because of the tension between Dubya and his Dad. She makes a very appealing case. Of course, it's all speculation but great fun to read.

2. Yes that article gives clearest motive I've seen
on why Bush would hate Wilson. Ultimately most things are personal and Bush is such a small person that everything seems to be personal. The psychology of the guy who can never meet his father's expectation, never win his father's approval, is always a disappointment and goes astray to get his dad's attention all seem to be at work here.

"swats Junior over the head with it like a dog that had peed on the rug"

The Oedipal conflicts running thru this administration are enough to make a Greek tragedy look simplistic. Too bad that >2000 American soldiers, and 100,000 Iraqis had to die in the process of * working it out, not to mention the collapse of the entire American economy and reputation and the total future of this planet being put at risk.

edit, BTW..
"he's a guy born on third base who thinks he's hit a triple"

Wasn't it Molly Ivins who first said that, not Arianna Huffington?

8. Poppy spanked Junior hard on many levels, including
the law that tripped him up during his little hissyfit. Junior threw a tantrum and we're all paying for it. Poppy shoulda spanked him harder and much earlier in life.

9. Wow! This quote is even more telling!!!
"I remember when Bubba Clinton and Bush Sr. were doing their tsunami tour and good son Bubba slept on the floor so Poppy could have the bed. Ouch. That had to rankle Junior. Then Poppy invited Bubba up to Kennebunkport (site of Junior's DUI) to stay at his leisure. When I read that, my back went straight up. There is no way that a loadie like Junior didn't take that as an implicit criticism of everything he was and everything he'd done. "

So it is possible that Bush 41 was buddy with Clinton JUST TO PISS OFF JUNIOR? WOW! That is SHITTY. Wow wow wow. Ouch.

10. it was an interesting read,
given the degree of vindictiveness of the Bush family. If it's possible to extend that a little further, I think it's also not so far out of the realm of possibility that Bush Sr. is also after Cheney. If you remember Scowcroft's interview he also is quoted as saying that this is not the Dick Cheney he knew from the Sr. Bush Administration and the first Gulf War. Is it not so far out of the realm of possibility that it was Cheney who has treaded into waters where he wasn't supposed to (ie CIA) and has percipitated a war with them. I personally think that the CIA is Bush Sr.'s "DMZ" and that Cheney has breached it. And by doing that he's breached the loyalty factor that is so dear to the Bush family. It's also possible that that is why there was such division between Gen. Powell and this Bush Administration. Powell's loyalty has always been to the old man.
