Good review of The Colbert Report and great critique of RW pundits.

In the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Melanie McFarland has a wonderful review of The Colbert Report and takes some hard shots at O'Reilly and the rest.

Among the highlights:

Mind you, this is not the real Stephen Colbert we're seeing. It's the one taking aim at the behemoth egos of Joe Scarborough, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly, and at the very idea of gravitas in the 24-hour news cycle.

Colbert's on fire when he directly satirizes the structure of opinion-driven programs, brows cocked, fingers pointing and neck swinging. Consider his mocking of "The O'Reilly Factor's" talking points memos in a segment called "The Word."

Last week, O'Reilly hinted that he may retire within the next few years. It may be that with his departure, so goes the rest of the current crop. May Colbert's show survive long enough to be the boot print on their backsides as they're shoved out the door.

When even the television reviewers in the A&E section are pointing out these issues, we've turned a corner.

1. My favorite part of Colbert's show...

is when he introduces a guest, then HE walks over to where the guest is sitting, arms up, fake ego oozing, drinking in the adoration of the fans.

The first time he did that, I laughed my ass off. It SOOOOOO pokes fun at those guys.
