Must Boys Be Boys? Ending Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by UN Peacekeepers

In a new report, Refugees International argues that a "boys will be boys" culture has evolved in UN peacekeeping missions that tolerates sexual exploitation and abuse. Effective peacekeeping operations can bring about a stable peace so that displaced people can return home and societies can rebuild, but allegations that peacekeepers have exploited local women cast a dark shadow over the positive impacts that UN peacekeepers have made. The new report, "Must Boys Be Boys? Ending Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by UN Peacekeepers," was launched as part of a panel discussion with top UN experts on the issue. All agreed that the UN and its member states must do more to ensure that funding and resources are available to fully address the problem.
