What's to keep Rove from "managing" Bush even after he is indicted? |
|
Which I think he will be - but do you really think he won't still be giving advice and making recommendations? What am I missing?

7. He seems to be having troubles enough today. . . |
|
when all he's trying to do is deal with the possibility of indictments. Once he's in the dock, I doubt he'll have much time to play puppet master -- he'll be too busy trying to extricate himself from this mess of his own devising.

Rove is not useful for the advice he gives. He is useful not as "Bush's Brain" but as "Bush's Thug". It is his ability to smear and intimidate that make him an asset to Bush. His ability to keep the media in line has begun to slip noticably in recent months and under indictment it will erode even further.
Rove has been giving Jr. awful advice and has fumbled often.

The GOP are generally cowards. Once Rove risks being in bars, he'll bail out. Not to mention that the administration will abandon him. That's GOP loyalty for you...remember how Falwell and Robertson always point fingers at each other when one of them says something stupid?

13. He seems to have been a little preoccupied |

since August, judging by the way the wheels have come off at the White House. (Cindy, Katrina, scripting the troop interview, Harriet, etc.) I think he'll be even busier if he gets indicted.

This is a great point. The only actual benefit to a Rove indictment is that it keeps the fat fuck distracted for a while. Which clearly IS a benefit, as we witness the bizarro political calculations coming out of the WH lately. But once he calms down and settles in, and BushCo finds a way to keep funneling money to him (or cigarettes), then he'll still be Bush's brain. He just won't have the fancy WH office.
As it is, I think it's pretty funny to see Rove driving to work in the morning, the last couple of days...here is the President's most trusted aid, and supposed mastermind of every BushCo success, and he's driving himself to work in a Ford Taurus. No bulletproof limos or even an SUV with a driver. He got to drive himself in a generic Company Car. LOL! Karl, you're the ultimate SCHMUCK!
Jeff Gannon must give great head...I think he was Karl's only job perk.

Without being close to Chimp, i.e., working intimately with staff from within the WH, Rove would not have much opportunity to effect policy and strategy.
At least, that's what some people have said.

18. Even though he'll resign |
|
He will be running the GOP campaigns for 2006. I thought he would step down from his post, at the White House anyway, for that reason. Before treasongate.
There is no point to "managing" Bush anymore. Bush isn't running for anything in the future. Rove's specialty is campaigns. Rove will advise candidates in 2006 to distance themselves from Bush to win in 2006. Bush is damaged goods at this point. He served his purpose. Rove's focus is on 2006 & 2008. Losing Cheney is a good thing if you think about it. They can appoint a new VP who is more electable in 2008.

They'll have to re-route the White House hotline from Bush's desk to Rove's jail cell.

I could be wrong on my impression of bush* but I think his loyalty ends when someone doesn't perform exactly as he desires.
Rove will have lost his luster in bush's* eyes if he gets caught.

23. Lots of good points in this post |
|
(just got back) - but I don't think so - for appearance sake - they will not be seen with him or speak of him - but there is no honor among thieves. They know Rove is the expert on Nazi strategies and if they need him, they will call. We can only hope that Rove will be in so much trouble and so scattered, he'll be off his game - and/or - after the indictments - no one will be buying what they are selling anymore. That would be the best outcome. The sliming of others will backfire.
