Those people in Florida are so dumb for living next to the ocean! |
|
Of course they were going to get hit by hurricanes. Why should we have to help them get back on their feet? Why is it FEMA's job to help bail them out of their predicament? After all, it's entirely their fault for living where hurricanes hit.
(end of sarcastic rant)
-- I remember all the right wingers bitching about the New Orleans residents living in a "flood prone" area, and that it was their own fault that they got hurt by the hurricane. I don't remember hearing any of them say that about the residents of Florida. Did I miss it?

at least in my county. The areas hardest hit by Wilma are also the precincts with the highest percentage of registered Republicans. Hmmm.... Democratic precincts have our power back.
Okay, I'm being pithy. I do realize the situation is much different to the south of me. But I couldn't help noting what is happening here.

I challenge anyone to list somewhere on this earth that is immune to a natural disaster. Flood, mudslide, earthquake, torrential rain, tornado, lightening strike, hurricane, avalanche, forest fire, blizzard, hail storm.....
Of course my response to someone who says we're dumb for living next to an ocean....
Where exactly would you like us to put our ports?

this is exactly what I tell people when they ask me why I like living in a place that has hurricanes.
What can you do about the weather? :-)

3. Those areas in Florida...... |

aren't populated by poor Black folks. They're populated by rich, White folks. That's the only difference and that's why you're not hearing a peep out of the Reich-wing attack dogs.

7. Agreed, but that is really but a small part of it. |
|
Hurricane Wilma maintained strength across the entire state. Hurricane Charley mangled Orlando right in the middle of Florida. I'm 21 feet above sea level and five miles inland and I just finished paying off repairs to my home from Frances and Jeanne in 2004. The entire state is vulnerable.

8. And these people are so dumb for living on a fault line |
|
And these people are so dumb living in a pine forest
And these people are so dumb living near the river
And these people are so dumb living where it's cold
People live where they can, race and politics aside, and too often, live where they do because that's the ONLY place they know or can afford. Do you think all of the "dumb" people in New Orleans can afford to live elsewhere? Do you think it's cheap living in most cities, and what about the nice white suburbs? I'm glad you live in Perfection USA.
I hate dumb people. They think they know everything.:sarcasm:

Maybe it is that it was the only home they had in NO? White or black if you have little money it is hard to pack up and leave and buy a lot of food to put in storage. Why does not the federal govt. under stand this? I do.

11. biggest issue is gov't supported flood/windstorm insurance |
|
These folks just figure that if a hurricane comes and wipes out their house, they will get a new, bigger one paid for by Uncle Sam. And they do! I am not talking about the average joes, but the ones who own beachfront 5000 square foot "cottages" built 20 feet from the water line. And boy do they scream if they are told they can't build right on top of the dunes... Get rid of the fed insurance, and they will go, pronto...

14. It all comes down to this: None of us is SAFE where we Live...from these |
|
Globalist Criminals. None of us. You could live on the top of a Mountain and be safe from flooding...but if a tornado or devastating snowstorm comes...."they" would say...Why did you pick such "high ground?"
There is No Where Safe anymore. Just look at the World. The most romantic place of Province, France....in a drought...dreams and visions of "lavender fields forever" sort of go down when one is faced with "parched dry earth."
Go anywhere...Beach, Mountain or "inbetween" AND YOU WILL BE VISITED BY GLOBAL DISASTER. !
We have to "clean it up." And, there's not enough time to do it, for those of us here, now, on this Site..to see the rewards. Our lot in life will be to suffer through it...calling attention to it, pushing legislation to stop what we see is going on.
(sorry....gloomy post)

When you figure odds into it its really clear that these beachside homes have a high percentage chance at getting nailed by hurricanes. I would bet the odds are much greater than my chances of having my home destroyed by any natural disaster. Im not bitching per say, but just stating the obvious. Some places are more susceptible to destruction by hurricanes. The way I see it if you build a house on a floodplane Insurance rates should be much higher than someone who builds safe.
