Oprah on now doing show about global warming!
Excellent information and Leonardo Dicapprio is on talking about it as well. He has become a huge advocate for global warming and effects on the atmosphere.

1. Remember how silly we use to think of the people who thought
that the sky was falling?

2. Well you can hear Freepland trashing DiCaprio already can't you?
I think it's a good thing she's doing this show. I'm watching too. One thing: She said she can "feel a change." But she didn't go into any detail.

I can definitely feel a change. I wish she'd talk about that more. Just this summer I remember driving on a mild day but the sun was so HOT. That is not normal. The weather is more extreme--there is no longer a subtle change between the seasons. Last winter, I got waist high snow in WI. The snow is no surprise, the amount is though.

3. Thank you! I tuned in as soon as I saw your thread.
I'm nominating this for the MSM coverage of global warming. They are giving great helpful hints.

4. Oprah can change a few minds, believe it or not. She's trusted by a lot
of people who would just call the info in global warming hysteria or scare tactics.

Maybe some of these dolts will start thinking about the world they're leaving for the kids growing up now. God, how I pity them.

7. I just watched it with my sister-in-law
she has all compact fluorescent bulbs. The lights don't look too fluorescent and she says they last for ages making them not only environmentally better, but also more convenient.

14. come to think of it, I haven't had to change any in my house ...
... since I switched over to compact fluorescents more than a year ago. The only incandescents I kept were in the bathroom, and I am hoping for them to burn out because the fluorescent lights don't have as much glare. (And the way I look in the mornings, that's the last thing I need!)

15. Do you guys have the ones that look like a regular bulb, the twists, or
both? Is there a difference in the light they give off or is it just cosmetic?

16. the twisty or loop kind
The first ones that were available in my part of Canada wouldn't fit into some of my light fixtures (the straight loop ones were too long, and the twisty ones had too big a diameter), but then they came out with some more compact sizes. I could tell there was something odd about the first ones, because the light seemed to be a bit more "spread out" without that really bright spot around the filament (which shows up even in frosted fixtures). The difference is less obvious with the more compact ones, and I've gotten used to it by now.

The provincial power company (which is still owned by the public) offered rebates on a certain number of fluorescent bulbs per resident, so that helped convince people to try them out. They also started offering a "trade-in", to swap your old strings of incandescent Christmas lights for the new more efficient LEDs.

12. I use most all in my house.
I have a few regular bulbs, but mostly the compact fluorescent. There are different kinds some are whiter than others. The straight ones are more white while the curly ones are more yellow. What's also nice is they don't get hot. In my floor lamp I use the compact fluorescent in the summer and a regular one in the winter, because it's nice to get the warmth during the winter.

13. For those looking for a good price on the compact fluorescent bulbs,
check ebay. They have some great prices from sellers I would trust. Here is an example of a auction for "COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULB 40 WATT X NEW 12/LOT" with a buy it now price of $19.99.

17. That was a very informative and rightfully emotional show.
Oprah can definately have an impact and get even Republicans interested in this issue.

18. Arghh!! I wish she could influence my mother.
Dear ole' fox watchin' mom believes that the planet is just going through a cycle, & I quote: "As for global warming, I think Earth goes thru times of warming and times of cooling off. I really don't think we humans are having much to do with it. I think the world is far stronger than to be changed by us mear humans. I also don't think there is a hole in the ozone. Or rather I think perhaps the "hole" opens and closes at will. Not because humans have been driving their SUVs too much."

When I read this last email from her I was overcome by sadness & anger at her complete total ignorance. We have less & less in common & more & more conflict as time goes by. I now limit our contact to email, one maybe two phone calls a year & a visit at the holidays. Each 'encounter' has become more & more difficult to endure.

19. That's my in-laws too. They are Dobson fans and think Bush is a "man of
god" so he can do no wrong.

RE: Global Warming we really need to educate people via campaign ads, we have to get information out. I think Oprah's show was a good first step.

Sorry about your Mom. It's hard when the great "uniter" interferes with family relationships.

20. DiCaprio has 2 short online movies.
One of these was inspired by Thom Hartmann's book, "Last Hours of
Ancient Sunlight". Oprah's on here at 4:00 so I don't know if they discussed these great films ,"Global Warming" and "Water Planet." DiCaprio also narrates.

Thanks for posting - can't wait to catch the show.
