CNN: "Theoretically, Fitz could extend the term of this grand jury or..."
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 05:40 PM by Leopolds Ghost
"...empanel a new grand jury to continue the investigation.

But there's no indication he wants to do that, it's EXTREMELY unlikely, there's every indication that Fitzgerald wants to get this investigation wrapped up, certainly the president wants this investigation to be wrapped up. So it looks like we'll see tomorrow whether there are two indictments or one indictment or perhaps, no indictments. This is so-and-so, CNN news."

Edit: Moved "call out Conservatives for a fight" comment to post #4 below.

(See CNN quote, post #3)

2. Why drag it out, really? Might as well leave the slate clear tomorrow
...for indictments!!!

He isn't gonna go to the list and point at a name tomorrow. If he does, we KNOW he is an idiot. There will be a revetting, a discussion with the Nuclear Option team of 14, and a new list of consensus candidates proposed.

If he decides to get all fundy, he will have more trouble, and no Rove, perhaps, to steer him through troubled waters.

Remember, he picked Harriet when Rover was out for kidney stones...

3. CNN: "Democrats have put * on notice..."
"...not to nominate someone considered controversial -- or they will fight. But many Republicans say that's exactly what they want -- a fight."

Again, stupid, stupid, and the opposite of what Reid was doing. Let the enemy define the battlefield by saying who you will fight and how. Not a smart idea. Like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

4. Oh yeah: Stupid fat Dem Leaders!!! It ruins it!
They are already stepping their big fat feet in the perfectly good
"poor Harriet, sucks to be a moderate Republican" meme, which was
advanced here on DU, by Ed Schultz and other commentators...

That meme is dead, dead, DOA (thanks elected dems!) because...

Instead, they're already SHowin' their frickin' hand!!! Calling the Repubs out for a duel! "If you don't nominate the sort of consensus candidate we know you don't want, you'll get a fight!!:" Jesus!

"Here's the sort of candidate we want, in case your base didn't know
who to fight if you support a moderate, fight us!!"

When will these people learn how to Bork someone with a damn velvet glove parliamentary tactic?

..........

More crap! Randi Rhodes calling the Dems out! Saying the Dems should have opposed Harriet in public because she was a crony! Buy a clue, Randi -- they're ALL cronies! That AIN'T an argument for or against a particular Bush appointee! She thinks it's a good thing Harriet's already gone! Repubs have somehow learned their lesson! She thinks America has somehow learned from Harriet that "Repubs are about corporatism." Yes, Randi, Reid pulled quite a stunt -- but the Repubs have finally wised up and called his bluff. It would have been far better to let this drag on, fer gawdsake.

5. I don't think the Grand Jury can be extended
Apparently once is the limit:

Should he need more time to finish the investigation, Fitzgerald could seek to impanel a new group of grand jurors to consider the case. But sources familiar with the prosecutor's work said he had indicated he is eager to avoid that route. The term of the current grand jury has been extended once and cannot be lengthened again, according to federal rules.

Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rule 6. The Grand Jury.
