Does anyone else find this annoying and unbelievable? |
|
I am half-watching CNN while looking at the web. The usual suspects are on Lou Dobbs, and the bottom of the screen features, in huge letters:
WHITE HOUSE MESS
Is it just me, or does this sound very casual, colloquial, informal, and silly... for 'journalists'? Mess? Have I been living in Europe too long? It strikes me that the Beverly Hillbillies are doing the graphics tonight... ???
I am also tired of news anchors saying things like, 'There's six of them' and 'it's a miracle'. Among other things.
WWWCD? What Would Walter Cronkite Do?

It is a mess and it just gets messier. Kerry referred to the war in Iraq as a mess as well.

They are getting so lazy with grammar and word choices. And they should be setting an example, imho. It's all part of the dumbing down of America. Pathetic, isn't it?

White House Mess: "A brilliant satire . . . A witty, very funny, intricate spoof".--Bob Woodward. (I think Bob was exaggerating just a smidge there.)

9. I don't know whether it trivializes what's going on |
|
or whether it makes the White House sound, well, messy. For five years they've presented this image of themselves as being total control over every situation. The grown-ups are in charge, etc, etc.
"White House Mess" is maybe not as strong as the more accurate description "White House Going Down in Flames," but if I were an average viewer I'd at least think "mess" sounds chaotic, yucky, and out of control.
