My Response to Paul Hackett's "I'm Running for U.S. Senate" email

Okay I don't know if anyone else believes they might read the responses. They probably don't. But here's what I wrote and I urge everyone who might be able to contribue something, anything, to Paul beyond money (if you've already contributed) to respond with what you have to offer.

Here's what I wrote. Please, contact Paul if you have anything to give to his campaign besides simple dollars. Perhaps, if they actally read this stuff and care, we can build a movement.

Dear Paul,

In four words, "I know you are." A few days ago I signed up to provide monthly donations to your campaign.

I don't live in Ohio. I probably never will. Regardless, I think you are a winner and I think you're the crux of the Progressive ideals we need in middle America. I live in South Carolina, a blood-red state that will probably never change its leanings. At the risk of sounding "Star Wars-ish" you're my only hope. You're one of my big hopes. And I will give whatever I can to help you because I believe Ohio needs a leader with your integrity, your brilliance, and your experience.

I'm probably on this email list because I donated to your congressional campaign. I saved the postcard of "Thanks" you sent because, as I told my husband, "Of everyone I have ever supported, I think this is the only postcard I've ever received from a future President of our country."

I don't know that you read this reply email address. Probably not. But if you do, perhaps, check in --- please know that I have the faith in you to be everything our political system needs. I believe in you because you went to Iraq, but more importantly I believe in you because I think you are an absolute "poster child" (and I don't mean that in a deragatory way) for the future of progressives. I believe you are the future of the Democratic party, and of a noble and wondrous party.

I'm a writer, a photographer and a project manager (listed in order of how much the three titles mean to me). With a degree in Journalism I crave responsiblility from our government that I haven't seen from the "mainstream media" in almost a dozen years.

I'm just a South Carolinian, a bright blue square peg trying to stick into a big, red round hole. If you think I can help you beyond small financial contributions, please let me know. Until then, I pledge to give you the money, in hopes of a better future for our country.

Thank you for standing up to the world, the country, and the extremists.
