Vice President's Daughter to Join AOL

DULLES, Va. (AP) - America Online Inc. has hired Mary Cheney, the daughter of the vice president, to a newly created position.

Cheney will report to AOL Vice Chairman Ted Leonsis and assist in managing the advertising, e-commerce and search engines considered AOL's core functions. Citing employee privacy, company officials on Thursday would not reveal her salary, when she was hired, where she'll work or when she will start.

Cheney's resume' includes stints heading a gay and lesbian outreach program for Coors Brewing Co. and running operations in her father Vice President Dick Cheney's campaign office. She received a graduate business degree from the University of Denver.

AOL spokesman Nicholas Graham said Leonsis knows Cheney and hand-picked her for the AOL post.
