Jeb Bush's Aggressive Hurricane Prep Plan For Florida Didn't Pan Out

MIAMI (AP) - Florida disaster response officials thought their vast experience with hurricanes meant they could design an effective plan to distribute water, ice and other supplies only hours after Hurricane Wilma's winds subsided.

It didn't pan out as they intended. snip

As Wilma approached last week, Florida officials repeatedly insisted they were ready and assured they would avoid the chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican who is President Bush's brother, said his state had a "unified command" that would contrast with the sluggish state and federal response in Louisiana.

After Katrina, thousands of people waited for days in New Orleans before food, water and other relief reached them. When Rita threatened the Gulf Coast weeks later, the Federal Emergency Management Agency had already stockpiled hundreds of truckloads of ice, food and water in forward positions in Texas and Louisiana.

Florida figured it could do even better as Wilma approached. snip

Bush's acknowledgment of failures comes after he has spent weeks crusading against an expanded federal role in disasters, which some politicians have proposed to avoid another Katrina debacle. Bush testified before a U.S. House on Oct. 19 in opposition to the idea, contending that states are best able to handle storm response because they are closer to the people and know their own communities.

4. All Jebbie has shown is that neither he nor his brother
has a clue. In the same way that people in hurricane zones keep their non-electric telephones, cities must have gas stations that can function without electricity. Can you imagine how FEMA would deal with a major earthquake if they can't handle gas supplies four days after a hurricane.

All Bushes should just shut the fuck up. Everytime one opens his or her mouth, there's a foot waiting to jump in within minutes.

5. The facts are in:
this is a country which is destroying itself due to cronyism and corruption.

Just like the Soviet Union, we are sinking down, down to the bottom because we are not efficient any more. EVERY job, every position is given to cronies.

This causes massive inefficiency and corruption. Nothing gets done. Everybody is on the dole, stealing funds or giving fat, juicy contracts to their brother in law.

We're seeing this every day now. Let's just hope we don't go the same way as the U.S.S.R.

6. Jeb is ALSO blaming the people of Florida
for not having 72 hours worth of food and water on hand with them at all times. This is not practical for some.

7. Jeb's taking state blame to get the heat off his idiot brother
If, as Jeb says, it is Florida's fault, you can't blame FEMA or federal government. I think it is a sneaky way of saying neener neener neener at people who blame the feds for the poor post-Katrina showing. See, it's the state's fault, not the feds so don't blame the administration. jerks
