Guess who? -- largest quarterly profit ever for U.S. company

No, not Halliburton, but close....

Oct. 27, 2005 — While Americans were stung by historically high gas prices this fall, the world's biggest oil companies saw their profits skyrocket.

On Tuesday, ExxonMobil, the world's largest publicly-traded oil company, announced net income of $9.9 billion for the most recent quarter, eclipsing analyst expectations and dwarfing the $5.68 billion reported for the same quarter a year ago. It was the largest quarterly profit ever for a U.S. company.

1. They just love tension and chaos and death. So good for the bottom-line.
When are we going to do another Teddy Roosevelt on those vampires?

2. Obscene
A number of oil companies reported obscenely high profits today. And Hastert is asking them to build more refineries with the $$. Yeah - right. "Why would I do that", says the oil co. exec - "I can line my pockets now and keep things the way they are - set up for the same sort of profits the next time there is an "emergency" I can blame high prices on." Grrrr.

3. How obscene do they have to get
"during an emergency" before they get hit with price gouging? They are so "in your face" with their high profits, its as though we are being punished like naughty children while they are ROTFL. How defeating.
