Are Patrick Fitzgerald and Rove's lawyer old friends?
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 11:01 PM by Blue_Roses
we know they were collegues in the prosecutor's office at one time. And we know Fitzgerald visited Luskin's office in the past few days. I think Karl Rove is in serious trouble and Luskin may have persuaded Fitzgerald to hold off indictments--for now

Last night, while watching Oberman, this caught my attention and made me wonder why Karl Rove would want to hire a liberal Democratic lawyer--Luskin. Seems he is a great lawyer:

"N. O‘DONNELL: Luskin is what you might call super smart: Harvard University, Harvard Law School, and then a Rhodes scholar. After working as a speechwriter for vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, he was a Justice Department prosecutor. He then spent much of his career as a white collar defense lawyer.

He was the go-to guy for those in the Clinton White House under investigation, and frequently appeared as a lawyer pundit on television."

snip--

"N. O‘DONNELL: In a sign of just how much is at stake in the CIA leak investigation, Luskin is now called “Rove‘s brain,” a nod to Rove‘s title as “Bush‘s brain.”

Legal sources say Luskin still has deep ties inside the Justice Department, and its special prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald. That may be one of the main reasons Rove hired him and why Luskin, albeit liberal and flashy, may be just the lawyer to save Rove from legal jeopardy."

2. MM may be spinnin
but lets assume its true hard for me to believe anything from any MM after they sold war to the American citizenry and I have a draffable teen..The question remains the same Is Mr. Fitzgerald a honest hard working DA or does friendship trumph the Law??

It would not be the first time..

BUT my bet is still on the BFEE being so loaded with corruption that Barney Fife and Maxwell Smart could round em up.

Fitzgerald has high credibility at this stage

all he needs to do is to slam a few of the big players like rover and scootie and he gets my vote..

ANYTHING above that is PURE HEROISM!!

4. I have no doubt Fitzgerald is not only very
professional, but way above board on this investigation, however, if Luskin is fighting hard for Rove (still haven't figured that one out yet), then it would make sense that Fitzgerald would work to cut him a deal if he "flipped." There is no love lost between Libby and Rove.

Thus no indictments--not yet anyway.

10. It is safe to say
that Rove was targeted as most likely and most desireable to flip, not because of his attorney, but because of his personality type and position.

Pretend for a minute that you are in high school. A group of students, including Karl and yourself, skip school and go out to kick your heels up. You get caught. Who is the kid in the group most likely to squeel on everyone else to save his own skin?

Further, before 2000, there is nothing in Rove or Bush's background to indicate they were aware that there were countries beyond Mexico and Canada. Neither are foreign policy experts. Neither has backgrounds in WMD. The plan to go to war came almost entirely from the VP's office, save George's shouting, "He tried to kill my dad!"

It would be almost impossible to nail Cheney without turning someone at the top, meaning Rove, Libby, or possibly Tenet or Rice. He never allowed Powell to know his involvement first-hand (much less Armitage).

Thus, the friendship and mutual respect between Luskin and Fitzgerald is probably a good thing. He has told Rove, as any lawyer would, that it's time to save himself. He will also explain that Fitzgerald doesn't play.

5. That's what pains me about lawyers.
Representing people from the OPPOSITE side of the fence.

How can a brilliant liberal lawyer defend Rove?

How compromised.

7. There's a trend here ... both DeLay and Rove with liberal lawyers.
They must know that their conservative buddies have shit for brains.

11. Add Libby's lawyer to the list
he's another DEM.

I guess the message here for conservatives is that when it's time to lawyer up, make sure you hire a DEM.

6. No prosecutor is going to hold up an indictment because he knows the
perp's lawyer. That would be a fast track to disbarment.

9. Many lawyers know each other and some may be *personal friends*
outside of court also. However from the lawyers I know, once they get into court they know all professional.

12. as an attorney myself
i can tell you that just because i am friends w/opposing counsel & like/respect them very much, that does not preclude me from kicking his/her ass in court should the occasion arise.

14. Its the Washington way...
I imagine that, at the end of the day, Kit Bond (Puke, MO) slaps Russ Feingold on the back and asks if he wants to go get a beer. You will forgive my cynicism, but I am probably the most sick I have ever been with politics. I am completely disillusioned and fed up with what goes on in both parties. Somehow I have to keep putting up a fight, because I have to believe that getting the dems in power will at least mean I and people like me will not get carted off to special camps.
