I think the media is behaving irresponsibly right now!
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:49 PM by TwoSparkles
The New York Times printed that Rove isn't indicted and Libby is--and that the GJ will be extended. The LA Times reports that the GJ will not be extended. The Washington Post is reporting no GJ extension and Rove/Libby worried about indictments.

No one knows. If one of them knew FOR SURE--they'd all be reporting the same thing.

This reminds me of the scrambling that the media did when Clinton's Monica story was emerging. They were all salivating to "get it first". In the process, they all ended up relying on unreliable sources and reporting false information.

Fitzgerald has kept everything totally secret and I doubt anything that is leaked now is reliable. The man is in bed, catching up on his rest--for his bombshell news conference tomorrow! He's not on the phone, leaking information to the New York Times and Matt Drudge.

We'll know tomorrow...when Fitzgerald wants us to know. If he wanted us to know earlier, he wouldn't be scheduling his own press conference. He has something to say--and he wants it all revealed at that time.

I won't believe anything I read tonight...even if it's great news that the entire Bush Administration is being indicted and slid down a razor banister into a vat of lemon juice.

8. I second that, Maddy
I'll admit I'm somewhat anxious to hear what he has to say, and I hope like crazy that eventually Rove gets it, but I have not just automatically believed something just because it's in the paper. Fitzgerald seems like he has run an extremely tight investigation, and has kept leaks to a bare minimum. I think most of the "sources" for these conflicting stories are probably the lawyers and other associates of those he is looking at, not Fitzgerald himself. So I will wait to hear "the real story" from him on Friday.

3. I am not gonna listen to anyone anymore. What time is his news
conference? I guess we probably don't know that yet. Well I am off to read Wayne Madsen.

4. Ditto everything you wrote.
I'm going to turn the news off and watch Carlito's Way (the first one), and then go to bed.

I'm off work tomorrow, so I'll be able to refresh Fitzgerald's website all day.

11. SOURCES CLOSE TO THE INVESTIGATION!!!
They are doing all the "leaking." And a source close to the investigation could be a lawyer for one of the accused, a friend of a lawyer, the lawyer's housekeeper, who knows?

It's like that story about the blind guys and the elephant--everyone has a different take about what they think is in front of them!

12. Exactly. Here are the current headlines on the RAWSTORY
homepage:

AP: Libby indictment feared, don't forget Niger...
WSJ hedges bets, writes about something else...
New York Times: Probe likely to be extended...
Washington Post: Probe will end tomorrow...
Raw Story: One indictment, deals sought...

Fitz is getting a big laugh out of all of this. Keep the bad guys guessing, let the mediawhores speculate wildly, and then *BAM* announce it.

Unfortunately for us, in order to keep the crooks guessing, the public necessarily must be kept guessing too. Bummer, but then again,

14. HA! Maybe the media are finally being challenged!
The media are (Judy Miller, etc.) finally being taken into account. Do you remember the compliance with which the media reported on the Iraq War? Do you remember the "embedded" reporters, the flag waving, and the sound bites? There were shots of tanks flying through deserts and sand-poor farmers wondering just what the hell was going on.
