Cheney Aide Appears Likely to Be Indicted; Rove Under Scrutiny
By DAVID JOHNSTON
and RICHARD W. STEVENSON

Lawyers in the C.I.A. leak case said Thursday that they expected I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, to be indicted on Friday, charged with making false statements to the grand jury.

Karl Rove, President Bush's senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, will not be charged on Friday, but will remain under investigation, people briefed officially about the case said. As a result, they said, the special counsel in the case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, was likely to extend the term of the federal grand jury beyond its scheduled expiration on Friday.

As rumors coursed through the capital, Mr. Fitzgerald gave no public signal of how he intended to proceed, further intensifying the anxiety that has gripped the White House and left partisans on both sides of the political aisle holding their breath.

This is Headlined on Drudge this morning too.

4. The sword of Damocles is hanging over Rove's head.
Let him sweat. Let him suffer.

7. Does that mean...
...that he'll soon be chased around the WH grounds by the dogs -- and a transylvanian or two?

3. Possible scenario?
Libby gets indicted, Cheney gets implicated, steps down.
Condi assumes VP role.

Later on Rove gets indicted, * gets implicated, steps down.
Condi assumes presidency.

5. It's now easy to compartmentalize it and have it blow over
Sorry--but without Rove this is going to become just a "bad boy" in Cheney's office story and it will fizzle like the Deep Throat lead balloon. Damn it. Apparently, according to a.m. news, Libby is only going to get it for "lying". The Repukes will be celebrating and calling this a farce that took two years. And they will characterize the continuing investigation on Rove as a witch hunt by Dem operatives. I sincerely hope there is another outcome this a.m. but it doesn't look likely. And, bingo, after talking about this on all networks for like 2 minutes they are breathlessly off telling us the real important thing is the SP nominee search. The crime family basically has gotten by again.........

6. Yep, sad to say
Not even conspiracy. If all they indict on is Libby giving false statements, it's less than nothing. It's vindication, they were victims of a witchhunt, and they'll carry it over to Tom Delay. I'd rather there had been no investigation at all then this ending.
