Indictment or not, Rove has been effectively neutered.
Who takes his phone calls now?

Who wants to be associated with his smearing and slime?

Maybe his phone is tapped, people will wonder. Maybe he's still being investigated.

I say Rove's going to have a mighty hard time getting anyone to return his phone calls now.

2. I disagree.
This pack of crooks visits each other in prison without any apparent surveillance.

22. Exactly. If the mafia can run its organization from prison, why can't
the Bush Administration take Rove's call from wherever he hails?

23. Yeah
But the question is will Tom Delay take his calls? OK bad example, they could just meet in the exercise area.

But what about other more mainstream Republicans, not to mention Democrats, not to mention lobbyists and others? It narrows Rove's circle of influence. He can still exercise influence of Bush (if Bush lets him), but beyond that not very much.

8. Who else wants to take the chance on doing his bidding?
He operates under the radar--now people will have to wonder if he's still being investigated. If he's under surveillance or what.

more likely to be kept at a distance, by those who don't want the investigation to reach their doorstep.

13. I agree with you,
A "close call" will not force him to stop, slow down or even fade into the back ground. Like a serial killer he will only get more bold.

10. I totally disagree
I think he will be emboldened. He got away with it and now he will feel invincible. They are saying the investigation of Rove will only last a few more days and once that's over, look out.

14. But he needs people who will be willing to risk being investigated
since now he may be *still* under investigation himself.

I think he will feel relieved and maybe emboldened.

It's the people he needs to do his sliming and smearing that may think twice about returning his phone call.

11. Nope, sorry ...
... now the band of thugs can just operate from behind the scenes like they've been since Watergate shooshed them off the main stage.

Cockroaches never die - they just hide in the dark where nobody can see what they're really up to.

12. Media may no longer be under the same stranglehold of fear of retaliation
These developments are actually great for freedom of the press and media since the floodgates of open inquiry seem to have finally begun to open.

15. Talk to Rove and you might be asked to testify.
A phone call from Rove might cost you $1000 in lawyer expenses, just to start.

21. Sorry. Disagree.
Rove has always preferred to operate behind the scenes. His main job has always been planning. Now he will be able to concentrate on that, and leave executing his plans to others. He will add a layer of insulation, like the mafia bosses do.

And he will spin the investigation as being politically motivated.
