My theory on the turning Aspens |
|
Remember the letter of Libby to Miller where he had all the weird talk about Aspens turning in clusters because they are connected at the roots? Well, now that Libby has been indicted, I think I know what he meant when he wrote that.
Remember that Libby is a writer. He has published non-fiction work in the past. Also, remember that he's been in politics longer than Rove, and my guess is that he's not quite as personally sleazy as Rove.
Put all that together, and I think that Libby realized at some point that Rove and possibly others had turned on him and that he was going to take a fall for the outing of Mrs. Wilson (Aspens turning together). I suspect that Libby had some human feeligns and didn't want to see Miller in jail when Rove had already damaged him. He decides to write her a letter to tell her to go ahead and testify. He couldn't tell her that Rove had already betrayed him, so he just started waxing poetic in his writerly way. He tells Miller to get back to work and life knowing that his life and work is about to be greatly changed.
Now, the big question is - How much did Libby cover for Cheney? I suspect that he tried his best initially (hence the obstruction of justice charges). I just wonder how far he is willing to go with this. I personally don't think he knew that Mrs. Wilson was covert and that he thought he was just engaging in some normal dirty politics instead of treason. I wonder how far his patriot buried in him will let him take the cover for Cheney? I have no theories on that, yet. I'll just have to wait and see.

1. I don't think that there is anything patriotic about any of these |

neocons. They are patently anti-American in their very fiber. I think that if he is taking a fall it is with a huge pay-off and a promised pardon; also, if he goes along, none of his family will die...

2. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part. |

I try to imagine what it would take for someone to do what the PNACers have done. I can only come up with pure evil or that they have had a false sense of patriotism used against them. Maybe they love their country and they are truly convinced that they are doing the best for it, as disillusioned as it is.
Or, maybe I'm just too naive to think that there's that many people driven by pure evil.
