Reid Statment on Indictment
REID STATEMENT ON INDICTMENT

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement.

“These are very serious charges. They suggest that a senior White House aide put politics ahead of our national security and the rule of law.

“This case is bigger than the leak of highly classified information. It is about how the Bush White House manufactured and manipulated intelligence in order to bolster its case for the war in Iraq and to discredit anyone who dared to challenge the president.

“It's now time for President Bush to lead and answer the very serious questions raised by this investigation. The American people have already paid too steep a price as a result of misconduct at the White House, and they deserve better.”

But when will our "electeds" summon enough personal and political courage to call this what it potentially is: TREASON !!!!!

"TRAITORGATE" is worse than Watergate.

I know a lot of LDS republicans who would NOT vote Democratic, even if Jesus were on the ticket. He'd get much of the moderate LDS vote, but totally alienate many other fundamentalist Christians, who would neither vote Dem, nor Mormon, but a Dem Mormon? No way.

69. I think he'd get some of it, but there are sooo many die hard
republicans in the church. I've heard people say you can't be a good Mormon and a Democrat at the same time. I think that's crap, of course, but there are people who believe it. My husband is a republican, and he would MAYBE vote for a Reid, if I worked him hard enough. LOL

Are you in SLC?

71. I'm in a suburb of SLC - I've heard the "you can't be a good Mormon and a
good Democrat" but that attitude is SLOOOOOOWLY changing here. The Dem State Party Vice Chair is a practicing Mormon, as are a number of staff members. I believe the Chair himself may be as well (it was reported as such but I'm not sure). At the anti-Bush rally (which 3000 attended), I saw a large sign that read Mormons Against Bush. In fact, here is the picture:

ANYWAY, even if SOME voted for Reid, that would still be more than past elections. :)

that if a Mormon Dem ran for Pres., a majority of Mormons would vote for him, despite his left leanings. This phenomenom has been studied and shows that Mormons vote for Mormons, even if they don't agree with the political party affiliation. Not all, but a majority of Mormons overlook...

Pelosi Statement on Criminal Indictment of I. Lewis Libby
Friday, October 28, 2005

Contact: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider, 202-226-7616

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today following the criminal indictment of Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff I. Lewis Libby:

“The criminal indictments of a top White House official mark a sad day for America and another chapter in the Republicans’ culture of corruption. At the heart of these indictments was the effort by the Bush Administration to discredit critics of its Iraq policy with reckless disregard for national security and the public trust.”

Diebold election 2004 also! Maybe this will be brought up too. These people are liars and manipulators par excellence.

Let them eat their own cake, and have the Golden Rule given back to them one million-fold. "Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you." Take that, you hypocritical 'Christians' who have given Christians a bad name. Jail time though is not like serving in the war. I hope these B tards get to serve on the 'front line' in Iraq, are wounded horribly in battle and finally, after much personal suffering and anguish, on their own part and on that of their respective families, they die a dishonorable death.

45. Kerry's statement

http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?p=979

“Today’s indictment of the Vice President’s top aide and the continuing investigation of Karl Rove are evidence of White House corruption at the very highest levels, far from the ‘honor and dignity’ the president pledged to restore to Washington just five years ago.

“A chief architect of the war in Iraq, Scooter Libby, sworn to protect this country, used access to national security information not as weapons against our nation’s enemies, but as weapons against someone who dared to ask tough questions of a dishonest policy. Then they tried to cover it up rather than come clean with the American people, even as the President falsely claimed his Administration was cooperating with investigators. Not only was America misled into war, but a Nixonian effort to silence dissent has now left Americans wondering whether they can trust anything this Administration has to say.

“Today, almost on cue as bad news struck, the President delivered another rhetorical blast on the war on terror. But the war on terror is not a convenient political distraction, it’s a war we have to win. And to win the war on terror, we can’t afford to have senior administration officials playing political games with national security. The President needs to get serious about addressing our nation’s problems, starting by cleaning out the corruption in his Administration and then addressing the situation in Iraq, soaring gas prices, and a still sluggish economy.”

KENNEDY REACTION TO INDICTMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Laura Capps/Melissa Wagoner (202) 224-2633

Today is an ominous day for the country, signifying a new low since Watergate in terms of openness and honesty in our government. This is far more than an indictment of an individual. In effect it's an indictment of the vicious and devious tactics used by the Administration to justify a war we never should have fought. It's an indictment of the lengths Administration officials were willing to go to cover up their failed intelligence, their distortion on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, and their serious blunders on the war. It is an indictment of their vindictive efforts to discredit anyone who challenge their misrepresentations.

The American people know the high cost of this misguided war -- 2,000 U.S. soldiers dead, more than 15,000 wounded, hundreds of billions of dollars spent with no end in sight, and a continuing shameful effort by the White House to silence those who try to tell the truth about the war. Dissent is the ultimate form of patriotism, and it's time we return to having an honest discourse in this country about changing direction and paying attention to the needs of the American people. The President should take this opportunity to do everything he can to heal the country by not interfering with the prosecution of this case or the continuing investigation, and by cleaning house at the White House to immunize the country against any further corruption and dishonesty. As the President promised, anyone still in the White House who had anything to do with this scandalous plot or the cover-up should be dismissed immediately, whether or not they have been indicted. Something has to give — America can't stand three more years of this failed Bush presidency.

Sen. Jeffords' Statement on Libby Indictment

Statement of Senator Jim Jeffords, I-Vt.
On the Indictment of Lewis Libby

"The indictment of Lewis Libby confirms my suspicions about how far this Administration is willing to go to defend its flawed justifications for going to war in Iraq, and to silence those who challenge their reasoning. This marks a sad time for this presidency and for our country."

53. Kerry has one great point here:
"...even as the President falsely claimed his Administration was cooperating with investigators."

Now that we know one of them is being accused of lying under oath, this puts *'s credibility under even more strain in the eyes of the American public.

and strike back in full force while the fire(s) are hot! All their tiptoeing around the hot issues has sickened me! Where are our Dem leaders? Seems like you can count them on your fingers....

52. Not a bad statement, BUT...
...expecting Nero to lead this whole process is like expecting Ashlee Simpson to sing the part of Brunhilde in Die Walkure. Ain't. Gonna. Happen.

58. Harry is always subtle and direct...
...no extra flowery words. He pulls shrub into the middle of the scandal with just three little paragraphs. He spells out that the evidence for the war on Iraq was "manufactured."

I suspect Harry's favorite knife is the stiletto.

64. i'm pasting this to my wall
“This case is bigger than the leak of highly classified information. It is about how the Bush White House manufactured and manipulated intelligence in order to bolster its case for the war in Iraq and to discredit anyone who dared to challenge the president."

89. Yeah I wish he would have had a statement in there about that
I think a lot of people still aren't getting this aspect of it; that our people(one person?) in government were playing with the lives of the CIA undercover people. I consider it treason

cut a deal like he did during the 911 hearings when they threw Rice to the wolves, letting her testify as long as no one else from the WH is forced to testify under oath... wonder who they'll sacrifice this time?

90. This is an excellent statement but I wish it would have been
a bit stronger. Name the number of Americans dead, Iraqis dead, the dollar cost of the war so far and the fact that we deserve and expect answer NOW. (If the pugs had this happen on Clinton's watch, they'd be screaming to high heaven about it, demanding answers every day)

91. My CIA leak
My "Crisis In Autumn" leak:
I understand Chicken Little's panic when he thought he discovered that "the sky is falling" because I look out and see that the leaves are falling (as any fool can plainly see--I can plainly see!).
Fusia Alert! Falling leaves pose a potential threat to my lawn if allowed to remain where they fall. They can smother environmentally friendly vegetation that when healthy consumes dangerous carbon dioxide from the air we breathe and returns life sustaining oxygen to our atmosphere.
Fortunately we are protected by FEMA: My Friendly Emergency Mulching Apparatus is always called into service in such situations. The same mulching kit on my mower that maintains healthy vegetation during the growing season also converts the potentially smothering leaves into free mulch that will pay huge dividends come Spring.
"Crisis", "Crisis Alert"! An unanticipated leak has been discovered that endangers the dependable operation of my FEMA. Now, a leak in only one component may not seem like much of a threat to the entire mechanism when you consider that there are 3 other tires that are not leaking, but would you say that a 3-legged horse would lend itself to a stable operation?
Neither would I. And remember, the continued stability of my lawn depends on how quickly and effectively flat fix can avert a total collapse until a more permanent remedy can be effected.
