7. How can anyone think this is over?
The GJ has been extended, Fitz just expanded his office space and The VP's COS who also happens to be the POTUS's top advisor on National Security was just indicted for perjury and obstruction. Let me repeat that Libby was POTUS's top advisor on National Security.

36. Congress should step in now and begin an investigation.
Even Pat Buchanan said today that our Congress dropped the ball in failing to get to the bottom of our reasons for going to War. I think Fitzgerald was implying that others need to also step up to the plate when he said this investigation wasn't about the Iraq War, that it's the job of Congress to investigate that.

He's doing his job exactly as is required by the Constitution, in respect to the Department of Justice. Now it's up to that other branch to follow thru with the information that has been and most likely, will be, discovered by the upcoming trial, and perform a further "check" on the crooks in the White House!

If it's "over" the current administration is not being held accountable, properly, and our process of democracy is now threatened.

Is Fitzgerald, or is he not, the most circumspect public prosecutor ever?
I sat here and watched him with absolute admiration, as he deflected all-too-obvious attempts to get him to step outside the bounds of his duty to the law and Lady Justice.

He makes Rove look like he's 2" tall.

15. not much specific analysis is possible at this point
Its a well written, succinct indictment. What it can't tell us is what sort of evidence Fitz has on some of the counts. For example, Scooter is charged with telling the GJ a lie about his conversation with Russert. I have to believe that he has some evidence about what the substance of that conversation really was beyond Russert's version -- otherwise it just a he said/she said.

I am a Franciscan and I find the thread starter's statement very hard to believe. I hold no ill will nor disrespect toward OLL. Only that I interpret her retorts as far to caustic and dismissive of her opponent(s) for me to "buy into" such a claim. However, I realize that I could be wrong, but I hope that I am not. :hi:

52. Caustic and dismissive doesn't begin to describe it.
I have looked and looked for helpful, informative posts, and too often I just find nastiness, and contempt for us lowly non-lawyers.

I am assuming that at some point in the past it wasn't like this, or OLL would not have so many friends here.

I'm too judgmental for it's only the people who absolutely devote themselves to "being a Jesuit" that always walk the walk.

Although I doubt that I will ever be friendly with OLL, I do admire her razor sharp intelligence.

Thanks for setting me straight. Please accept my genuine best wishes to OLL and those who hold her dear.

42. act 1 is over. many acts to come. No way is Fitz going to let
the biggest case of his career slip away. He may be non-partisan BUT... he is a lawyer and this investigation has to be a prosecutor's dream come true. His performance in that press conference was masterful. I was in shock at how well he handled the press. In control and very careful. That press conference put me into the "Tip of the Iceberg" camp. The guy is damn SMART. No wonder BushCo is shitting bricks. I would be too if I had a Mr. Spock turned lawyer on my Ass. This isn't a bumbling Ken Starr on a fishing trip. This is a top lawyer with a top team in a target rich environment. He knows this will put him in the history books. Libby is facing jailtime, maybe serious jailtime (assuming no pardon). What info is going to come out in his trial? Will he really fall on his sword?? And Rove is waiting in the wings. and these fools are ALL basically cowards at heart. there's a good chance of them turning on each other.

57. James Wolcott Evidently Agrees With You:
www.jameswolcott.com

Obviously, there was a spot of news while I was away. I refuse to feel let down that there was only one indictment, though of course more would have been a bonus. I look at it this way: If a year ago, anyone had predicted that Tom DeLay would be under indictment, Bill Frist would be under the microscope on a cheesy stock deal, a guilty plea would have been obtained in the AIPAC scandal, and one of the leading neo-cons--Cheney's #2--would be hit with five indictments and forced to resign--we would have thought the fortune teller was dipping into the cough medicine. So let us give thanks for the statues that have toppled, and hope that more crashes will echo down the hall.
