60. Cuz Scooter or no one else was charged in outing of Plame
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 07:30 PM by BigYawn
Fitz caught Scooter lying and I have to believe he did not
trip up Rove or others else they would have been indicted.

Since no one was indicted for the real crime of outing a CIA
operative, my fear is there will be no more indictments. Also
note that it took Fitz 2 years to indict Scooter. Now he has
to deal with a new grand jury, and start all over with them.
By the time he can ask for more indictments, Bush will be
out of office and we will gain not much politically.

The GOP has already been hurt badly with this scandal, and I
believe we will occupy the WH in 2008.

for revealing CIA secrets. Of course, congress, CIA, don't know who would have to investigate the whole mess of the bush admin lying to get us into war. Niger yellowcake papers were a fraud. There's no way that this is the end of this investigation.

I do believe this is only the beginning.

As someone said, the Watergate indictments happened in waves. And wasn't it the end of the GJ term, anyway? So they had to leave...The evidence is just waiting there for the next GJ to pick up.

19. "Official A" apparently still in legal jeopardy
MSNBC legal expert says this is codespeak in the indictment for somebody who is still in legal jeopardy/trouble. All others referenced in indictment are refered to by title. Those people are not in trouble (because you can figure out who they are). Notice Fitz very cagey when asked about "Official A"

But if you don't want to hear about it, unplug your computer.

30. Press conference or not... it's over...
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 04:01 PM by Dawgs
Here's why...

We will not get build up like this again. Fritzmas has come and gone. Even if Rove gets indicted down the road, it will not be the same as if it happened today.

I'm disappointed because I thought Fitzgerald had a lot more to go on than what we all knew. Scooter wasn't enough for me, and if some of you can't deal with it then that's your problem... not mine.

37. I don't think that it's a matter of "dealing with it"...
Factually, there is nothing CONCRETE to deal with yet. Rove bought himself a week or two at best. How do you think that he managed that? By "flipping" on the neo-cons. Not a good move, IMO. Don't lose sight of the fact that a founding member of the PNAC was indicted on 5 counts today.

IMO, this is FAR from over.

Peace.

NOT be a huge story?

I totally disagree with your premise, and I trust that if the evidence is there (not discounting that it might have already been destroyed or compromised), Fitzgerald will find it. And Rove will be indicted. And it will be a BIG BIG deal.

31. it isn't that I am convinced it is over- I am just not convinced it isn't
Listen, I am seriously one of the most optimistic people I know. And I don't take the spin on the news seriously at all- so don't blame it on me believing the talking heads- I don't.

I know the investigation isn't over. I see in the report where Cheney is mentioned. But what about Rove? I want to believe that the investigation going forward means trouble for rove- I really, really really want to believe that Rove can't get out of this.

We are ALL a little burned from the last 5 years, okay? And we all have a right to share our reactions to the announcements today on here- whether or not we interpret things optimistically or not. I for one feel myself afraid to hope. I need to be really convinced.

I love this place- I love that I can come here and be pumped up about how this is going. I love the information I get here- and the support.

Don't shut down those who are not feeling so hunky-dory about everything. We are the ones who need the info and reassuring the most. The people in my office today were seriously down about just Libby being indicted. I want info from here that I can bring back to them to make them (and me) feel better.

46. It's over
Two years of investigation and only one person is indicted - and indicted on counts that have nothing to do with the original cause of the investigation.

Fitzgerald can continue, but if this investigation's history is any indication, nothing earth-shaking will result.

Frankly, I'm elated that justice is being served! Fitzgerald was brilliant at his press conference. I listened carefully to him speaking about the indictment, and what I gleaned, which I found important and uplifting was his comments about indicting Libby because he was obstructing the attempt to get at the truth of the outing. I noticed that Libby was indicted for trying to obstruct the truth.... not the leaking. Be patient, grasshopper, there are bigger fish to fry and we're just getting warmed up.

56. No--Pigboy's way too smart to laugh at this close call!
If Rove knows exactly where he stands, then it's because his lawyer did a good job.

The best part of all this is it has brought the whole byzantine operation of the White House--especially the Cheney side--into public view. Rove's powers of persuasion (read: his ability to cheat and lie Americans into believing bullshit) have taken a big hit.

Rove is too smart to be happy with having narrowly escaped indictment.

I didn't believe it at first, but now I do: Cheney really is the real president--not Bush.

And Cheney's top man and longtime blowbuddy, who knows all Cheney's secrets, is running scared.

There is now legitimate evidence out that can be used to remove Cheney from office.

Rove is their svengali, but even with all his alleged talent, he barely squeaked them through the two elections.

Scooter, OTOH, is a dyed-in-the-wool NEOCON. One neocon down, about 100 to go...

61. Democrats claim to hate him but never really go after him
I think one of the reasons why Rove has not yet been defeated is because most Democrats refuse to beat Rove at his own game.

Let's role play for just one minute....

Pretend that the Party roles were reversed. The Democrats are in power and although the "right hand man" to President Gore was able to squeak through by the skin of his teeth, the Chief of Staff for Joe Lieberman was indicted today (THAT is a weird thought). Now imagine reading about the ever so elusive "Official A".

Disclaimer: If someone in a Democratic WH outed a CIA operative, I would personally change my status to "Independent". But this post isn't about me. :)

What do you think someone like Rove would do? What do you think the RNC would do? They would go after the "right hand man"! There would be televised ads with this person's face and the words: Official A? written all over it. Every damn Republican would be on the TV/internet site/radio YELLING that the source of the leak is OBVIOUSLY (insert name of whoever the right hand man is)!
