Ohhh! Ohhhh! Yes! Yes!!! YES!!!
Enough with the "but what about Rove." His time's coming. Meanwhile, I think I’m having a Fitzgasm.

Here’s the thing. For five years, the Bush administration has lied about, smeared and sought to destroy everything I believe in, and subverted what I believe to be the very essence of what America is. Until now, they have paid no price for this. They have not been called to account by the media, by the people, or even by the opposition party of which I claim to be a member.

Was it all I had hoped for? Well, no. I would have liked to see more members of the administration charged. I would have liked to see someone charged for using classified national security information to cover up a lie, and punish the people who exposed that lie. I would have liked to see someone punished for damaging our intelligence gathering capabilities for political ends. And I would have liked to see somebody dare call it treason. I got none of those things.

But, finally, finally, one person has stood up and said, “No. You can’t do that in America.”

So, maybe it wasn't great. It was still pretty damn good to see this headline: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/28/AR2005102800153.html">Cheney Adviser Indicted in CIA Leak Probe

Was it good for you?

3. It's not just "silver lining"
I actually think that it's HUGH!!11 that an officer of the law has officially said, No, you can't do that and get away with it.

NOBODY has said that till now. Sure, they've said, "Oh, that's terrible." But they've also said "Oh, that's just politics."

4. The best part of this for me is
This story will unfold running right up to the 2006 elections. Giving a constant and vivid reminder to the public as to why they should never ever vote for a republican. And you know what's going to happen if we get back a Democrat controlled Congress.

Can you say "Downing Street & Impeachment?" :)

7. That's a good one too. And
We already see that the strain is having a negative effect on * - with this indictment, there's MORE ratcheting up of the tension on HIM and ROVE, not less. It's not "over" for them. If Rove had been indicted, they'd have something to fight. As it is, they're trying to fight ... what? smoke? innuendo? there's no way for them to "hit back" until there's an actual charge to be answered.

5. I get what you're saying...
I just got home from work and missed everything so far today, but I am slowly absorbing everything that was said today.

I keep seeing people going on and on about "What about Rove"? I am going to put my faith in Mr. Fitzgerald at this point because I feel he knows where he is going with the further investigation. I think he is going to make sure that what does come out of all this is the truth.

Cheney's name is all over this so far and Rove's fingerprints are there too. And I think with what Fitz did today with the press conference and the sudden interest from the MSM, Bush will not get away with pardons like his father did. No, this is much louder and the fact that we still have Americans in Iraq and as long as they are still in harms way, Americans are going to be paying attention to what happened today and if they have half a brain will start making the same connections we did 2, 3, 4 or more years ago.

I like it better than "Fitzmas" because Fitzmas implies that it only happens once a year.

Whereas a person (well, a woman, anyway) can have multiple Fitzgasms!

11. To naysayers: Can we all agree that CHENEY is bigger than ROVE??
And (given that apparently Fitzgerald doesn't request indictment unless he's SURE he can prove the charges), we've GOT Cheney's Number One Man and longtime blowbuddy.

That is BIG. And as someone here said, this will continue to have fallout throughout the 2006 campaign season. AS WILL THE DELAY MATTER. AS WILL THE FRIST MATTER. (The Frist matter ain't going away--my opinion is that Trent Lott and other repuke Frist-haters are partially behind it.)

Thank you, grand jury. "You give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; you teach a man to fish, you feed him for life." The grand jury has taught the American people--even including the stupid repuke kool-aid drinkers--to smell FRAUD in the Bush administration. They didn't do everything for us--they didn't bring down all the malefactors. They just gave US the means to do so.

14. Yes! Exactly
Hold the cigarettes... This ain't over, it's just "between." :D

I too believe that bringing the VP's office into it is actually bigger than Rove. Rove's a hack - sure, a good one, but he's an *advisor*, not part of the official apparatus of the government. Cheney (and that "deputy" in the State department) ARE.

Quit crying in your beer, folks, and drink a toast to the Rule of Law. It's about to get some very long arms, me thinks.

:toast:

But Cheney, and by extension, Libby, sure as hell are.

The neocons are the REAL enemy.

19. Yep the neocons are the ones we really need to get.
Face it, even if Rove is indicted and out from any official position, who here really believes he'll stop giving advice to Bush? I mean, phones are great tools, and you don't have to be on the government payroll to use one.

But the Neocons, they DO need official positions to carry out their "work." Get them out of the government, and they can't order anybody to do anything.

16. That's how I see it...
A crack in the wall, a leak in the dam, whatever metaphor you want to use, today's indictment shows ME, at least, that there's still hope.

That one representative of the law is willing to stand up and say, no, you can't get away with that in this country, gives me great hope. Again, it isn't everything I wanted, but its evidence that what I want is possible, still, in this country, even after five years of the criminal bushgang's assault on our ideals.

Coffee. Out my nose.

Great movie, though.

But the real beauty is that everybody on *this* side of the political spectrum gets to have what we're having...

Today, the law stood up and said "I'm not going to let you get away with that" to the people who have been lying, cheating and smearing with impunity.

That's worth a celebration!
